Coffee Or Coffee Maker For Good Coffee?
Comments (23)I use 12 level tbsps of coffee plus about 1 1/2 more for our ten-cup Braun. I always offer guests added hot water if it's too strong, but no one has ever complained. We buy Don Francisco online or from the catalog; it's DH's favorite. Don't care for Starbucks; it tastes very harsh to me. We have a variety of D.F. flavors that we like. When they have a sale we occasionally spring for Kona. There is now a discussion about coffee brewed in French press coffee makers being bad for one's cholesterol. A Dutch study comparing filtered to unfiltered coffee indicated that this was the case. There's a fair amount online about this question. I just googled 'french press coffee cholesterol'. Very interesting information....See MoreEspresso maker for induction cooktop
Comments (29)The Krups machine mojavean refers to was probably the machine currently sold as the Krups "Moka Brew" - per the name, it does work essentially the same way as a moka pot, but on a larger scale. Water is boiled in a comparment at the bottom, under pressure, and the steam pushes the hot water up to a sprinkler above the grounds. Its a really old Krups design. I actually really like the coffee they make (their espresso machines, on the other hand, are horrid - but thats another story...). Anyway, their biggest flaw is that that after the water is forced through they can allow some steam to actually hit the grounds, producing a distinctive and disgusting "cooked grounds" smell. I think this is what Mojavean is referring to. They shouldn't, however, actually produce coffee that tastes like the smell... if they are, it is is probably an issue with your grind, or a fault in the machine. The coffee is very extracted, however, which might be interpreted as bitter by some palates. The issue doesn't apply to a Moka IF you use proper technique and take the pot off the heat source early enough. Its a matter of timing...after a whiel, you get a feel for it....See MoreAnyone own an AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker?
Comments (6)I have casually seen one used once, and I have looked closely at the parts. My SIL has one. It is essentially a big syringe with a filter on the end. I gather that the medium filter still lets some fine particles through, but there is an extra fine reusable metal filter that prevents most of those fines. I would expect it to make a very nice cup of strong coffee. Well, I guess it could slow your drinking down since it only makes single cups and it is a little difficult to set up each time....See MoreInduction and coffee maker...not a marriage made in heaven
Comments (8)I read quite a few reviews on those inductions discs. For what sandbox 5 wants it for, It should work great. Naturally because of the "Metal Mass" it would not heat/cool as fast as a proper induction pan/pot but still will most likely more quickly bring the water to a boil, than perhaps, a gas burner with 22K or 23 K burners but even then I suspects it would be a "Close Race" For her use, (the Coffee Machine), she does not need the "Ultra Control" that induction offers without "said Plate". Anyway found one for just $39 check the link below, at that price I may try one,--not that I need one, (Just Curious) Good luck!
