GE Profile....and then there were two. Help me pick!

We are trying to decide which GE Profile Electric Free Standing range to pick.

We have narrowed it down to two models:

1)PCB975DPBB : This the dual oven range. Two doors, two ovens. Bottom oven is self clean and convection. Bottom oven has hidden heat elements while the top oven does not. Smooth top is black speckled on black.

2) PCB969DPBB : This is the model with a larger oven on top and a small baking drawer on the bottom. Large oven is self convection, self cleaning, hidden baking element. I'm not sure if the smaller drawer is a warming drawer or an actual oven. Smoothtop is speckled grey on black.

Can anyone clarify if the second one, the one with one large door and one small drawer has an actual oven at the bottom or if its just a warming drawer.

Is two ovens really necessary? But then I would be less likely to use a warming drawer than an oven.

I like that with the one with two ovens, one does not have hidden baking elements, which is good for crisping up pizza.

Only bad thing I've found about the double oven model is that the top oven makes the smoothtop very hot when the top oven is on.

Advice? Which one to pick?

The 969 has a warming drawer.

two ovens are kinda neat when you want to cook something small (casserole, pizza, breads) and dont need to use the larger oven.

Hidden elements, though easier to clean, take longer to heat up.

I have the dual oven. I'm not sure if it is the exact model number - mine has the bridge unit. I have had it for a couple of years now.

The good first - the upper small oven is a work horse. I cannot tell you how much we love and use this little oven. It heats up quickly and is wonderful at baking the small items. I have even baked homemade bread in it (not my choice - asked the husband to preheat and because this is the only oven he uses that is what he preheats - everytime.) It is also fine at broiling. We love making super sandwiches on fresh french bread and putting them under the broiler to melt the cheese and crisp the edges or put in a casserole to crisp the top - it works great for this. We have not had to have any service done on this oven.

On to the neutral - the convection oven is OK - not terrible but not great. We use the smaller oven over it when ever we can. We have not had to have any service done on this oven.

The bad - none

The really bad - the cooktop. I have had every burner/circuit replaced. It is very inconsistent. It takes FOREVER to heat up and then when it finally heats up it overheats - keeping a consistnt temp is almost impossible. We have come up with our own creative workarounds to try to manage an even temp.

The so bad I can't even put a level to it - GE customer service. As I mentioned we have had to replace the burners/circuits on the range top. Every time they have come out it takes a least two trips. Parts have been ordered wrong a couple of times. The range not put back togther correctly (screws were left on the counter top - how they missed that I don't know). The most memorable event - Christmas with the in-laws coming. Three trips - wrong part brought the first time, wrong part delivered the second time. Finally they were coming Christmas eve to fix it (really) when they called and said the part wasn't going to be there. I was left without a range on Christmas day - with the in-laws at my house. Thankfully my in-laws are wonderful so we survived.

Having said all that - we are doing a remodel and if the Miele speed oven turns out to be too small I would consider the GE Profile single double oven just to keep the little oven. That is how much we love the little oven - and the ovens have not had any problems. I would of course get the extended warranty!!

One of the appliance folk can probably say with more certainty than I could but the model you chose looks like the Optima I had in my apartment, which was a great, great dw. I have a 10 y.o. Incognito though it dries very well. I've never opened the door. Here's what Miele says about how the drying system works -- it is not heated drying and requires no energy usage. "Most Miele dishwashers employ an advanced drying system that draws room temperature air through a port at the bottom of the appliance. This air is disbursed through special channels around the exterior dishwasher cavity and allows the interior water particles to condense against the walls of the dishwasher. During this process no external air is ever introduced inside of the dishwasher. This provides the most effective and hygienic drying possible." The reason the dishes get dryer on Saniwash is because that water is very hot and, provided the dw is fairly full, the condensation is quite complete. I have Ikea cabinets in the laundry room so I'm aware of precautions with those. Their plinth board in there is starting to peel though the cabinets are doing fine. I would just be aware and make adjustments needed. The DW does come with a front piece that is contiguous with the toe kick in my kitchen but that would depend on which Ikea cabinets are being used and how they are being installed. Crystal looks like a good choice to me.

Hello all, No I did not end up with the GE Cafe fridge. If you all have read reviews, NO refrigerators have good reviews as far as reliability. I ended up with the Samsung 4-door, French Door, Food Showcase (which is the door-in-door feature). I had time to watch prices since we were in renovation and the Samsung was $1,100 cheaper than the GE Cafe for the same amount of space and I got a couple extra features like the water bottle that is in the left door and refills itself automatically. I thought that was a dumb feature, but now that I have it, I see I use it a lot! It's much faster to pour the water from the pitcher if you are filling up a larger bottle or pitcher, than to wait for the little water filler on the outside of the door. And it was my hubby who wanted that 4th door---which is the drawer right above the freezer. I wasn't sure but I love, love, love that! It holds all our cheese, yogurts a few cans of pop or water, and if I have a half a lemon or something like that, which would normally get lost in the fruit or veggie bin, I just pop it right there in the front so it is not forgotten about! The only complaint I have is that the ice maker takes up room in the top left side of the fridge. You don't have this with the GE. But we got the big 28.7 cu. ft. one and we keep a lot of food and have had no issues with space. As far as reliability, since ALL brands seem to have bad reviews, I figured the best thing I could do is get the most extended warranty possible. So I got the Citi Visa which adds 2 years to any warranty (yes---that's a feature of the card!) as long as the total warranty period is not longer than 7 years. Bought it at Home Depot along with the 5 year extended warranty which was around $295 I think, and then Citi will extend the warranty out two more years to SEVEN years! If a fridge is going to be problematic, I figure it will do it in the first seven years. And they will repair but will replace if they have to come out more than 3 times. So I figure I saved about $1300 including taxes by choosing the Samsung over the GE Cafe. As far as my GE Cafe range and microwave, yes I have loved them both so far! Had the range about 6 months and the microwave about 4 months. I got them both in stainless. Someone asked how far it sticks out from the cabinets. I can see about 3/4" of the black side of the oven sticking out beyond the cabinets and then of course the entire oven door sticks out beyond that. I don't mind the handles sticking out beyond that. It seems normal to me. I love having the double oven and the convection feature, although for 95% of the things we do, we can use the upper oven. There is planty of space fo almost everything including a cake or a deep casserole dish. I use a lot of cast iron so that is good, but I had some old Revere Ware stainless that I thought I could use. They are all good except the ones that have copper bottoms and they won't work on this stove. The microwave is a microwave! Haven't used the convection feature on it yet. Anyway, I would recommend both appliances although they are a bit pricey. They do look great in the kitchen!

There is a difference between the sanitize and allergen protocols if they're getting NSF certification. Allergen is better because there's actually a temperature that has to be met. For sanitize it must: at least 99.9% of test organisms are removed when the washer’s sanitization cycle is selected, and there is no carryover of test organisms between loads after sanitization cycle is used. For allergen: Washers certified to this protocol must remove at least 95 percent of house dust mite allergens and feline dander. The wash water must reach 131° F (the temperature required to kill dust mites) for at least three minutes. The washer must be easily cleanable, corrosion resistant and designed to avoid accumulation of dirt and debris. So I guess that's one pro for the GE is that they do the stricter allergen cycle.

That's terrible news about the cooktop. Ugh. I'm just about at my wit's end with our range and I just want to get and keep one already!

I wonder if you got a lemon or if this is common problem with the cooktop. I'm not so proficient with finding good reviews so I haven't been able to find too many consistent reviews either way.

Do you have to choose GE? I've looked at GE (and other mid-range brands) but cannot find two ovens in a gas model.

My new range will be a dual-oven Maytag Gemini. I've done a lot of research and everyone says they use the small oven a lot more than the large one. That's another reason I chose the Maytag, the small oven is on top.

GE makes a wall oven that is the two-in-one style, two ovens in the space for one. You might think about this and put a different (gas/induction) cooktop with it. PT925DNBB
