Cleaning ceramic briquettes

What is the easiest way to clean the ceramic briquettes used in a gas grill? This is my first year using them, and I've never cleaned them before. They really need it!

I would just fire up the grill and burn them off...just like a self cleaning oven.

The whole idea of grilling is easy clean up...just burn off, and brass brush those grates and burners..that's is about it.

As stated above, with maybe one extra step if you want to get them clean. Normally I would turn the grill on high for about 20 minutes and burn most of the stuff off. About every 2 or 3 months I will take them out after a burn and brush them off with a stiff brush along with the tray that holds the ceramics in place.

Why not a buy a REAL grill and get a Charcoal grill using REAL charcoal. Lava rocks do nothing but help spread the heat better and radiate heat once hot which is nice if you must have gas but it doesn't even compare to an actual BBQ grill.

We have a brown/tan ceramic mosaic tile on our shower floor -- in the spirit of full disclosure, it's 2" squares, not 1" -- and it's the easiest thing ever. It's easier to keep clean than the old shower pan, though I think it was so old that the "coating" had worn off of it, making it more difficult to keep clean. Our new tile is not fancy or trendy, but it's so easy that I'm going to do it in our new house too.

Find a cheap stove either at Home Depot or even better on Craigslist. For less than $500, you can find something that will look better than what you have right now, and it'll help sell your house. For what it is worth, if your stove otherwise works fine, go right ahead and sell the disfigured stove on Craigslist. People who look for an inexpensive appliance won't be put off by cosmetic damage. Just make sure you word your Craigslist ad so that they know what they'll get, and be prepared to be haggled down. Everybody feels better if they can haggle a little. But potential home buyers absolutely look at how well-maintained your house looks overall. And obvious cosmetic damage is a bit of a red flag. They'll wonder what other deferred maintenance they'll have to expect.

Grout doesn't dissolve. Do you have photos? I've used Tilex tile cleaning products (heavy ammonia...so have the windows open) with GREAT success. it's my go-to product for heavy cleaning of tiles (I only do it 1/year...so I don't do damage...just in case). It makes the grout look FANTASTIC and it gets the tiles to 'like new' condition. I spray it on an area and then LEAVE the area. I let it sit for 30 minutes or so. Then I take a sponge mop (with the 'scrubby' side down) and go after the dirt very aggressively. I usually end up sweaty...but man it works! If you leave it on long enough to 'dry out' then go ahead and reanimate the Tilex with plenty of water. Then mop/scrub as needed. Again, this is a HEAVY ammonia product so do NOT be in the same area with the product for any length of time. Ammonia = EXCELLENT degreaser = great for discoloured grout!

I think these R the white flat ones and not the Lava Rocks? I had these on a indoor grill in my kitchen. I would spray them with Easy Off oven cleaner and then run them though my dishwasher in one of those mesh bags in which U purchase onions or potatoes. Just B sure that U have set your control to air dry and not the heated dry. The bag will melt. After several years I just purchased smoker plate and did away with all of the cleaning. It just turns to white ash and is brushed off. U can run them through your dishwasher if U wish.

I've soaked 'em in a bucket of water and some simple green or other degreaser to get the crud off. Then put them back in the grill and put on high for 20-30 mins.

Also, they're not terribly expensive, so it might be worth the $10-15 for a new set to save yourself the hassle of cleaning.
