tea set & markings of unknown origin

Hi Everyone:

I am very new to collecting antiques and I am even newer at posting on forums, but I am hoping that someone out there can help me to identify a tea set which I purchased for $40 at an antique store. The tea set has no chips and/or cracks. The owner of the antique store was unable to provide me with any information as to the origin of the tea set.

The markings in GOLD are as follows:

Crown

Shield -with a Y inside of the shield & an S inside of the Y

Branches/Leaves on the left & right side of the shield

Ribbon at the bottom of the shield connecting the branches/leaves

The word FINE underneath the ribbon and the word PORCELAIN underneath the word FINE

Again, I want to thank anyone who may assist me in finding out who made this tea set and if anyone can either tell me the value of the set or where I can get this info from.

You've set it up so you have to use a password to view the pictures.

From the site you linked: ------------------------- "Haas & Czjzek - HornÃ Slavkov, Czech Republic (Schlaggenwald, Bohemia, Austria) Founded in 1792 by Johann Georg Paulus, Johann Poschl, and Johann Reumann without a porcelain permit. SlavkovskÃ½ is the Bohemian name of the forest and mountains surrounding this area. This is the first operational Porcelain factory in Bohemia. 1867 Johann Czjzek, a newphew, became a partner. The company name was Haas & Czjzek. 1872 the company bought the Portheim & Sons factory in DolnÃ Chodov, Czech Republic (Chodau, Bohemia, Austria). After 1992 the HornÃ Slavkov (Schlaggenwald) plant became independent from the nationalized company and is still in operation today as Haas & Czjzek . Both factories were named Haas & Czjzek until after WWII. Your pieces have printed outlines....the differences in placement you see are due to the printing being laid on the piece differently or to differences in how the hand done embellishments, coloring was added. The puzzle in the whole matter is the mark.....early showa period...1920's and after. BUT the McKinley tarrif act passed in 1891 made it illegal to import porcelain without the place of origin marked... Perhaps it was bought but not for import? Or imported into Germany? or perhaps at one time it had a paper label also attached....or perhaps the importer turned a blind eye....that happened some! All that said....it's still not worth much. I still say garage sale it....because the packing and shipping will be prohibitive. Someone may pay $50 for the set....but not when they have to pay another $30 for packing and shipping.

I'm thinking about it too ,because where I live there everyone wants it for nothing,and I refuse to just give it away unless it's to friends I want to give to.I just have to learn the computer stuff to try to sell online.Thats my job after Xmas too.I'm wondering if we could have one person do this and we add pictures and the person in charge get's a commission off our items?We would have to all do our own shipping too.Don't know if this is crazy idea or not what do you all think,is it to risky that someone wouldn't hold up their end of the bargain?I know it takes a lot of computer time and someone with computr knowledge which isnt me sadly!

Ok, on the advise of lindac [& i thank you for that advice also] I now have pics of the tea set & markings posted on photobucket.

I am praying that this works because I would really like to try to find out where these pieces are from.

My experience with antique dealers is that they know their merchandise and values. Usually when you buy there you are paying top dollar. My husband and I collected things for 20 years or more, but not glassware..

I have bought more steals from dealers than you could imagine!! No dealer can know everything about all wares.
You got some sort of a steal!
What all did you get? Can you post a picture of everything and clear pictures of the mark on the bottom?
I believe it's newer piece of gaudy Welsh type ware, or perhaps it's german.
But the flowers appear hand painted and the colors are right for flow blue. But flow blue was transferware.
I have seen pieces very similar many many times, just can't put a name on the sort of stuff it is.
But it was made in the early years of the 20th century, was very special to someone and the roses are hand painted and it was very special to someone, judging by the condition.
Would love to see all that you got and the marks on the bottom. Is every piece marked? Did you get pups and saucers? the shape of the cup is an indicator of age too.
