Need help in the id of this Japanese tea set
Comments (0)This set belonged to a pioneer ranching family in California, suspect vintage 1920s. The design seems unusual in comparison to the many sets on the internet. The Nippon mark is difficult to photograph so it is drawn for a better view. I hope someone can comment on this beautiful set. Thanks....See Morehelp identify japanese tea set
Comments (2)It sounds like lustreware, also called lusterware, sometimes one word, sometimes two (lustre ware, luster ware). My uncle was stationed in Japan after WWII, & he gave some of those to his relatives; they had to say "Made in Japan" by law or rule or something. On some of my relatives' sets, when you look into the bottom of the cup, you see an embossed image of a Geisha girl. Look on ebay for active & completed sales, & when you're in "advanced" search, exclude words like German, new, reproduction, maybe Czech. Best luck!...See MoreTrying to identify three Japanese tea sets
Comments (11)The set with the blue handles and "made in Japan" on the bottom is most likely from the mid 40's through the 50's. Made in Japan became in common use, substituting for just Japan" on wares that were un marked with a maker's name beginning in 1941. The second set is the Moss Rose pattern....made by many potteries, including CF Haviland, J G Meakin and others. It has a maker's mark but I can't read it. Because it says simply Japan I am guessing it is early 20th century....and if it's a child's set and complete as it appears to be, it's very desirable!! Lots of people love Moss Rose....guessing it might bring $200 at the right auction....See MoreHelp identifying Japanese tea pot maker
Comments (1)It's mid to late 20th century, but I don't know the name of the maker. You could do a Google search for mid century japanese china makers....See MoreAnastasia Panagopoulou
