Pink glassware, what is it?
Comments (4)Linda's right. And one finds pink pieces often. Once you've seen depression glass you can often just tell it is by the thickness, pattern and look of it. Modern pieces tend to be not so delicate. Nice depression glass plates and sets have an almost delicate look to them. I have a serving set in pink depression glass and I use it......NOT! LOL One needs to be careful on guessing age by when somebody acquired a piece. Even though it was given to you thirty years ago, it may have set in somebody else's cupboards for thirty years. God knows I have some thirty year old pottery I still use or have stashed in my everyday kitchen cabinets I'll someday donate or give to a young person starting up housekeeping. And that means it already had a few decades on it when they acquired it....See MoreHow to display crystal glassware and china?
Comments (37)I wonder if the definition (antique vs. vintage) is different for furniture as opposed to other things like the glasses? Not that it mattersÂas IÂm not selling any of it! I was carefully washing MomÂs crystal last night after everyone went to bed. DH had offered to help me after dinner. But yesterday morning I had gone to check itÂs value online and found those glasses were pretty pricey at Replacements! Fortunately I remembered the name of both the china and the crystalÂa miracle, really. I figured if I broke one myself I could only be mad at me. I plan to print out what I have found on these and the china and keep it in a folder in the cabinet. IÂm glad Mom had the forethought to give these to me about 2 years before she died in 1996. She and my Dad just showed up at my house one day with boxes, minimally labeled. I had no china cabinet then and toddlers running around. (Two toddlers who threw furniture, I might add in my defense. Not like docile little me at that age.) I cleared off a shelf in the basement and thatÂs where they stayed for 12 years. Now I wish I hadnÂt waited so long to display them. I was keeping them "safe" I guess: then time got away from me. Casualty of being self employed (overwork) and raising kids. Meanwhile my kids have no memory of these lovely things the way I do: Mom and Dad always used their china and crystal whenever they had guests. They both had large families so that was often. I remember washing these same glasses many times for family parties. Now they are all gone. My cousins are all disbursed in many states and few even have children. Gosh, IÂm getting maudlin. Warning to meÂuse it, appreciate it. Enjoy what you have. DonÂt keep beauty in the basement....See MoreDishaholics - Love Your Dishware-Glassware Cabinets?
Comments (31)Jmc, thank you. I will take a photo and post it. There are grooves in the bottom. Our cabinet guy was not thrilled with doing sliding cabinets, as he never had before. I saw them in an historic home and liked them a lot. Our cabinet guys are quite high end and I never thought to specify, but the grooves are plastic; in the historic home they were metal, fwiw. As for the cleats, it sounds scary to permanently affix them, but then I thought about it. In my old kitchen, i had the holes in the side so that you could move them, and never did in 9 years. My old kitchen had glass front cabs, but I had sheers inside on a tension rod so you couldn't really see the holes. This time, my DH pointed out that, since our cabs are glass with no fabirc and sit on the counter, you'd really see all those holes. I am very happy with our cleats. I just worked with the carpenter and my dishes to pick the placement. Come to think of it, I could have just copied the distances between shelves from my old kitchen .... I am so happy with our cabinets!...See MoreLibbey leaf pattern glass ware (50s or 60s)
Comments (14)Whoa...we had 2 sets of them in silver !! I have 2 glasses now that are similar that were my MIL's.I saved them but the pattern was ruined by the ...dishwasher !! One of our sets of silver ones was knocked off of the top of our refrigerator in 1972..they were a wedding present in 1971. The other was used till we gave them away as the leaves had all worn off and the carrier was gone. Oh how we cherish things after the fact :) Good luck and thank you for the trip down memory lane !! c...See Moreannie1971
