Pink glassware, what is it?

A neighbor lady gave me a set of glassware, plates, cups, saucers 30 yrs ago. I have no pics as it is still in my mother's attic, but it is clear see-through pink with flowers on it and I remember somebody saying each piece came free in a box of soap. What would this stuff be? Depression glass?

Assuming it wasn't new when she gave it to you, it sounds like depression glass.

Duz and Dreft used to have a premium dish or glass (sometimes flatware) in their boxes during the 50's and the giveaways were probably discontinued sometime in the 60's. This was largely a post WWII phenomenon with the huge after war "prosperity" with its big influx of home ownership, nest building, etc. I'd question it going back to the 30's and the depression glass era.

I suspect the vase is "just insignificant glass ware"....but that picture is not very good. There was some elegant glasswear made during the depressikon era, finer quality than the stuff in pink, green and yellow.....and that may be some.... And... that clear platter......can you get a better picture of that?...it may be Early American Pattern Glass. Something about the edge is ringing a bell.... but of course, I am not qat home with my books....but at my son's with a broken ankle. The pink bowls are boullion cups....and there were special small spoons with a rounded bowl to use with them. Linda C

I don't have a bunch of pics of table settings but I do mix all the time...in fact it would be an odd setting for me if everything matched :) This is a table with venetian glass (amber wines which I use for water and the little bowls in the middle of the table which are also venetian but a different pattern), then our regular regular wines (clear) and on the china there are amber salad plates from the 60's on top of versache china. Nothing matches :) I like it that way. Different meal, different glassware (venetian and clear) I hate this table cloth but we had just moved in so I used what I could find but you'll see three different types of glass at the table: Your glassware is pretty easy to mix into any setting. I use pieces like that all the time with mixed china (I rarely even use one china set during a meal anymore, prefering mixed but complimentary pieces). They're great for serving almost everything because they "match" anything (kind of like white goes with everything...crystal does the same). I'd use them with my depression glass or the venetian stuff, and definately to supliment serving pieces or silver when setting the table because I like the mixes. You really can't screw it up with your stuff :) Just go for it.

thanks for that I think il have to take them to a dealer or something im not to bothered over selling them as im decorating me house and going 60s retro so they will fit in nice. It might be depression glass...but if that's so it's older than 30 years....more like 70 years....and didn't come from a box of soap. but was likely given away at a movie or something similar. But there is some higher quality depression era glass that was actually bought! LOL!

Linda's right. And one finds pink pieces often. Once you've seen depression glass you can often just tell it is by the thickness, pattern and look of it. Modern pieces tend to be not so delicate. Nice depression glass plates and sets have an almost delicate look to them. I have a serving set in pink depression glass and I use it......NOT! LOL

One needs to be careful on guessing age by when somebody acquired a piece. Even though it was given to you thirty years ago, it may have set in somebody else's cupboards for thirty years. God knows I have some thirty year old pottery I still use or have stashed in my everyday kitchen cabinets I'll someday donate or give to a young person starting up housekeeping. And that means it already had a few decades on it when they acquired it.
