Double ovens and MW vs. single oven, WD, Advantium

I am thinking of replacing my double convection ovens, plus cheap but reliable standard micro, with a single convection oven, Advantium 120 (because it's bigger), and warming drawer. Probably Monogram because I can get them wholesale thru a friend. Has anyone done this and regretted it? I guess the only thing I'm worried about is needing a micro when the two other ovens are already in use, but I don't think that will happen very often...very excited about a warming drawer.

Raynag, I think you were installing new appliances in this configuration--how is it working out? Anyone else?

Have you known anyone who has used the Advantium 120? I am thinking of redoing my kitchen and getting on.

I have read here that peopl very happily use thier Advantiums to keep food warm. Knowing that, you can think about whether you'd prefer an advantium and double ovens, or an advantium warming, drawer, and single oven. Just something to think about.

When you say you have no room for a wall double oven, I assume you are considering only a range unit like the PB975, so we can't provide advice directly on point. We have a GE unit having the "single-double" oven configuration of the PB975, but in the form of a "single hole" wall oven that takes up the same space as only one of our old double wall ovens. We are very happy with it. You do have to stoop over a bit to look into the lower (larger) oven, but we do not find it to be a problem. We also have the in-wall Advantium installed above the single-double. We carefully selected the mounting heights of the two units so that the controls of the Advantium are not too high and the lower oven is not too low.

Hello, We're getting a new range, and we were hoping to get one that features a double-oven. For various reasons we scrapped that idea and instead we plan on a single-cavity oven, and get an over-the-range unit. We are considering: (1) Advantium 120 (model SCA1001HSS) (2) Jenn-Air (model JMV9169BAS) (3) Whirlepool Velos So, here's my question: in their microwave-free operation mode, do these perform as a true oven? can you really bake in them what you'd otherwise use the big oven for? Some specifics: Does the cooked meat come out rubbery? Can you bake potatoes so they come out nice and brown? Casseroles? What works in that oven, and what not? Note: I was told that unlike the other two, the Advantium CANNOT have the turntable turned off, so anything you put in there to bake - must be free to rotate. Is that true? PS: I tried to search prior information here, but i was not able to find exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks very much in advance, Zevi.

Thanks, pillog. The dimensions and storage suggestions are extremely helpful. As for the 27" vs. 30", I'd love to have a 30" but the problem is how to fit one in. I'm working around various obstacles (e.g., a chimney) and fixed features (e.g., unmovable doors and some unmovable walls) that limit what we can do with the space. On the other hand, I hadn't thought about what would happen if the 27" ovens die and replacements can't be found. The current ovens are decades old and still work fine, but I guess that's not likely to repeat itself, given the life expectancy of current appliances. It may be time to look at those plans again and see if there's a way to steal 3 inches...

I know you said you already decided but I am curious how major your remodel is and if you will have to set up a temporary kitchen? I ask b/c that is what we had to do and for that I got the Breville countertop oven and fell in love with it. For the real kitchen I have an Advantium Speedoven/Microwave but we designed a spot for the Breville to live in the pantry. So far the need to microwave and heat something in the small oven at the same time, hasn't occured but if and when it does, I can use the Advantium as the main microwave and the Breville as a back up oven.

A friend of mine has had an OTR Advantium for several years and said she loves it and would buy one again.

My applinaces will be delivered Jan. 23rd and I will have a Miele 30" wall oven, a 120 Advantium above it and a Dacor 27" warming drawer closer to my rangetop. I will have a regular storage drawer under the wall oven b/c I understand the Advantium needs several special pans (comes with) and it's a good place to store them. I'm having a cupboard with slatted areas above the Advantium for storing trays, baking sheets, etc., and I'm making them large enough to fit one of my oven racks for those few times a year when I need only the bottom oven rack.

I'll post my cooking experiences with my entire new kitchen after we've moved in and I've played with everything. Probably in May or so.

I had the GE Profile Convection/microwave on top of a GE Profile convection oven in my last house. I bought the combo micro so I could have two ovens and I did run into the exact problem you mention. On the rare occasion I used the microwave's convection capability, I'd inevitably need to melt butter, or boil water, or some other microwave task. Using the microwave function after it was finished with the convection bake mode created another problem because the micro interior was so hot.

Have you done a search? I know this has been discussed before. Here is a link to some other Advantium threads which have pictures of my Adv 120 over the ZET1SLSS oven and WD. I mention the issue of the height of the advantium, and making sure you have a spot to store the accessories. The second and third threads talk about using it as your second oven and the warming drawer function. I wanted to mention that after about 6 months of use, the interior light burned out, and it was a pain to replace - Required a service call and the whole Advantium had to come out of the wall to access the light bulb. This is something others have complained about here as well.

Holly - haven't started the kitchen yet (in a couple of wks, I HOPE) but we are putting the Advantium 120 at counter height on the diagonal at the L of the counter. Our other (30" Monogram) oven will be under the cooktop at the other end of the run; I have only 27" for a wall oven and the Advantium seemed like the solution. Everybody who has one of these seems to love it.

Thank you all--thank you, needanap, for the threads--I did an Advantium search and read till my eyes crossed but there was so much I guess I didn't get to those. Alku, I think I want/need (which? LOL) a WD because the other ovens will be in use for other things, and also I don't want to use an oven with a cooling fan just to keep things warm. THe noise on my current ovens drives me nuts.

Very good point on heating up the interior of the Advantium...

I am sort of thinking that the Adv. sounds way cool and I would like my second oven to be smaller anyway. I very rarely need two full size ovens. If I get this combo and decide after a while that we REALLY need a regular micro then I could always get a small inexpensive one. I am trying to leave a couple of potential nooks for one just in case.

Raynag--good luck!! I went and saw some Monogram ovens in person today and they sure are pretty.
