Beautiful set! I have my mother's buffet which is similar to yours; I just picked up a table & chairs from Good Will that I'm working on now. Not an exact match, but close. Nice that you got so many matching pieces. What part of the country did you find it in?

OMG, I think your set is identical to ones my sister and I have from my parents. It, in turn, belonged to my father's parents. Both of our parents passed away and we have this set. Tried to sell it but no luck (in an area where money is very tight). It's sitting in my sister's basement taking up space. She was going to advertise it again. I told her to give it away but she was going to try to sell it. The table and buffet are identical. We don't have the smaller buffet. Our china cabinet is almost the same except that we have a decorative piece on the top.

Thanks! Funny, initially I was thinking 1930Âs (I donÂt know why, I know little about what styles were made in what eras). But then I thought of the Depression, and decided perhaps not much furniture would have been made during that time.

LindaC (and others) how would I research this style? Any books/resources you could recommend? What would make it Jacobean Revival? The bulbous legs? That was the part I wasnÂt sure I liked. But I liked the other detailing so much, I can learn to like the legs. What market would this style have been made for? High-end, medium, low?

gracie, I am in the Midwest, Chicago. I was very happy to get a whole set. Most of the others I looked at on CraigÂs list had only the table, chairs, and china cabinet, and I was holding out for a buffet, since that is the piece I use the most. I would have had to buy one separately if it was not part of the set. Since I already have a large china cabinet (oak, I think much older, bought 10+ years ago from a local antique store), itÂs a bit of a tight squeeze with these big pieces. I had to put the walnut one that belongs to this set in my living room, but surprisingly I think it looks nice there.

rosie, have you tried CraigÂs list for your set? If I were you (or your sister) I would hold out and keep trying. The gentleman who sold me this set said he had posted it earlier over the summer, and none of the people who were interested would pay cash. The alternative would have been to sell it to an antique store, which was interested, but the price they offered did not meet the minimum he had set in his mind. If you canÂt sell it on CL and itÂs in good shape that would be an alternative for you; or a consignment shop.

OMG Linnea, I too had been looking on the Chgo Craigs list -- too funny! Mine only has 5 chairs; one arm, 4 reg. I saw 2 similar ones on CL last week, but I'm so. of the city, and these were in Park Ridge; don't know if I want to go that far for 2 chairs.

One thing I will have to figure out with this set is how to store my table linens, of which I have a lot. In my old buffet (which really was a dresser) I used to have drawers, now I have mostly doors that swing open, in 3 buffets/cabinets. (What did people use these for in the old days? Dishes?) I have 6 such doors in 2 different sizes; each roughly a little over 1 foot square inside. Actual sizes, 2 doors @ 16" h x 12"w x 20"d, and 4 doors @ 12 ½"h x 14 ½" w x 16" d. If I wanted to install shelves (not that that would help much for this purpose) it would be difficult; the backs and sides are thin plywood, so what would I screw the shelf supports into?

A neat stack of folded tablecloths would never work for me; just like it doesnÂt work in my linen closet with sheet/towels either. Someone would pull out the bottom one and the rest would fall out and get stuffed back in.

My Mom used to use a stack of labeled shirt gift boxes, one tablecloth per box. But you canÂt get substantial gift boxes anymore, just cheesy fold-out ones. And my kids donÂt need shoes anymore, LOL. Plastic boxes will be too expensive for as many as I would need. Is there some other solution IÂm not think of? Thanks!

Beautiful set! I particularly love the buffet. I don't know if you have any extra closet space. I keep my tableclothes on hangers in the coat closet.

Rosie, I'd be interested in buying your set. I love that style and it is Jacobean. I do travel to pick up within a day's drive.

Where are you located, Glenda? Your member page does not say. It would be useful to know someone whoÂs buying, if you are close enough. I have some other things IÂm selling (had to make room for this new set!), chairs, lamps, etc.

You can buy something better than cardboard boxes for storing (cardboard which can discolor or leave odors in your linens). You can get plastic in almost any size, shape, form or fashion for storing and it prevents moths, insects, and odors from getting in your linens. My mother stored ours in cedar but those were the days. I store all my sweaters, linens, etc., in plastic that I purchase at the Mart, Target, or wherever I find the sizes that I use. Even try QVC Lock & Lock.

I ended up getting plastic. DonÂt like it but I had to do something. IsnÂt plastic bad for linens? Hydrocarbons outgassing, etc. Plus decided to donate ones that were lower quality. For modern linens IÂm keeping only a few basics. That saved some space.

The archival boxes are wonderful but I canÂt afford themÂI broke the bank buying the dining room set! I am on a tight leash now.

Wish someone would sell archival boxes on CraigÂs list!
