According to the Miele specification sheets Diamond is the only one with auto-open door.

An owner of a Dimension Plus with Q4 sound rating or G5775 claims his dishwasher has auto-open.

You may want to confirm with local dealer.

Your distributor should be able to provide a chart showing the differences between the different model lines. It is also easy to find if you google it. I linked it below

Once you settle on a particular model line you can go to the Miele website and look at the specific models in the line. They don't vary very much.

I could be wrong, but I think that the Dimension does have the auto open. It is the auto close feature that only the Diamond has. When I was looking, I remembered the big differences between the Diamond and the Dimension (at least the ones that I cared about) being the auto close and the interior LED light. I ended up getting the Diamond. I love it.

Sorry--I was mistaken. It was the Dimension Plus I was looking at. It did have the Auto Open.

I have the Dimension Plus and it has the auto open feature. When the load is complete, the door automatically opens about 2" and is held in place by a white tab. We've had the machine since August and love it!

In a nutshell:

They are all pretty much the same machine, especially at the core.

What you get as you move up the model range is more features. I.e. more and specialized wash programs like "cheese".

As you move up range the racks get more adjustable and feature laden too.

They also get quieter, by means of xtra insulation - it will be very hard for MOST people to tell a difference in one quiet level to the next though.

There are also a few specific things like the water softening system is not present in the entry level model and the mentioned lights and auto door features.

Re: wash - they are all going to be the same. Even if you get the auto open feature, you'll still have water in those plastic pieces that have deep lips or ridges that collect water - it doesn't matter whether you get a miele or another euro model or even a DW with heated dry. Ridges, lips, or bowls that collect water = wet dishes no matter the dishwasher type or brand.

I do realized that any groove or dipped area in a plastic/tupperware won't get dry (or heaven forbid, it turn over and become a raincatcher!) but it's pretty clear to me that many of the euro models don't address the steam issue at all. This seems like a good solution but I'd only consider it because so many people rave about the quality of the Miele.

Can I ask if it took an adjustment for loading? Some people love the capacity while others complain that it's so specifically oriented towards particularly-sized plates, bowls, cups, etc that it becomes frustrating and full of wasted space. We tend to have TALL glasses (24 oz Tervis Tumblers and a very tall wine glass set) - so that's tricky to fit with the KA cutlery rack but it's not designed exactly the same, I know. And, we have cutlery that has mother-of-pearl handles so the handle wouldn't fit in the small tynes of the cutlery rack. Do either of those sound hugely problematic to you?

I don't know if I care as much about the auto close - my kids will think that's a fun feature to abuse. But, I do like the idea of the auto open for the drying situation.

Thanks, everyone - it's about 50 minutes to the one distributor so I've only seen them once and it's not easy to just "pop" by to ask questions.

I think you should bring those items with you to the store to find out how well your dishes fit in the racks. There are enough differences in racking between the lower and higher end models that you'll want to try it out. Any dishwasher I've owned has had it's quirks for loading, Miele is no different.
I have a LaPerla II, the previous model to the Diamond. It has auto open, I think it makes a difference in how dry plastics are. Most are very dry when the cycle is done. Much more so than the Bosch it replaced. The cutlery tray is my favourite feature of the machine. It's very flexible to load, either the handle or opposite end can go between the tines. Just depends on how it fits best. My suggestion is to go to Miele's website and read the instruction manuals of the models you're interested in.

I have Miele La Perla II

The only problem I have is fitting thick artisanal bowls.

Artisanal dinner plates fit in an extra "flexible plate" holder that fits on the bottom rack. So does extra tall stemware.

The extra thick MOP handles may have to be placed in every other spot. The area for the blade is restricted but not the handle area.

I think it depends on a.) your dishes , glasses ect. and b.) your personality.

If your stuff is too wide / thick for the racking slots then there is no helping you save get new dishes.

If you are the type of person that likes to throw stuff in the DW willy nilly, on top of each other, stuffed to the gills - you will likely not enjoy a Euro DW or a Miele.

If you are an organized , methodical person you might just wonder how you ever lived without a Miele up to now.
