Floor models: wall ovens - WWYD

I am finalizing my appliance selection... Am in the market for 30" double wall ovens. I prefer a sleek streamlined look. Glide out racks are a must. Budget is a concern. Locally there is a pair of Fisher & Paykel floor model for $2995. I have read good things here about Elux. I prefer the look if the ICON to regular but think DH would not pay extra just for looks. Regular Elux was $3200 for the pair. Icon higher than that. There is also a Jenn Aire pair for $2300. At this point I am inclined to go for the F&P but figured I'd say what y'all have to say.

Shoot... Came back down to the store. The F&P is two models ago (blue interior). No glide out racks. And I prefer the newer handle better. Will likely go for the regular elux

Not the look you want, but the blue interior ones are good ovens. Too high priced for the age, though, it seems to me, since those were out of production about 2 1/2 yrs ago? I'd choose F&P or the Elux over the JennAir.

jmith, thank you AGAIN! I really appreciate your posts :-) Uh...where does the air make-up unit go?? Breezygirl, wow, thank you for your thoughtful and reasoned post! Yes, upon reflection, an underccounter oven would not be good for my back. I was thinking that maybe I would only use the second oven for parties and holidays, but sometimes we have friends over every weekend. Good point about the cost of separate ovens. I do like the look of double ovens, too. Especially the Bosch 800 series and the Kenmore Pro, but it is very hard to find anything on them...few mixed reviews online. I will ask on this forum. And do some research on Electrolux as well, since they seem to be popular here. I saw the Wolf cooktop at Great Indoors. My mother has a Wolf range, but she hates to cook. Lol. OK, will also look for the Capital. Hadn't heard of it until this forum. Yes, found ajmadison and HomeEverything. HomeEverything has slightly better prices, and usually free shipping. Yes, you're right, I couldn't find a published price on the GE Monogram counter-depth anywhere. I have to call or email each site to get the price, and from what you and the GI saleslady said, there probably won't be much difference except for no tax if I buy online. I have accepted that I can't vent with an OTR MW. I will have to spring for an undercabinet hood. Bleah. $1400. Ugh. Loss of cabinet space. Boo. I am thinking that, since I was planning for stacked 42" + !2" or 36" + 18", I will have to mount the MW under a cabinet...h'mmm...maybe I will have to do a mullion door on a 36" or 42", since the 12" or 18" are supposed to be mullion? Thought briefly about putting MW in island, but kids are 6 and 10 and tall, too. LOVE the Kitchens forum. Haven't posted my floor plan yet, trying to get up the courage to post pics of my truly UGLY kitchen. It doesn't look as bad or difficult on the floor plan as it does in the pictures Will check with contractor. Presumably he is up on all this stuff. Never heard of MUA until cooksnsews mentioned it! The GE Monogram ZFSB25DXSS is currently $3825 @ Great Indoors, on sale. I liked it bc it is 25 cu ft and well-planned inside. It looks.like close to the same amount of space that we have in our KA Superba, which we bought 9 years ago and has never given us a problem. I will look at KA fridges, thank you! I need the MW drawer money for the undercabinet hood. Boo. But the fridge isn't in my appliance budget, anyway. Lol.

HU, I don’t know if what I have to say will help. I discovered that oven makers are making 24” ovens in Stainless Steel. I have ordered two 24” Frigidaire ovens that are nearly the same size as the old Thermador. The appliance dealer’s installer came and said he would figure out how to make a divider, and a mason contractor I had for another job said he could resize the brick wall, but I guess it’s up to the appliance installer to put in the divider board. So check with your appliance dealer to see if his installer can figure out how to support the upper oven.

Well, I finally just broke down and called Miele for information. I had read the manuals etc etc and visited both the MC and Chef Series in the stores. The new models have a different finish on it than the older 4080 models. That also applies to the new trim kits as well. That was the biggest change. The CS rep did not mention any change in the workings of the oven. He said the interior of the oven had been upgraded to the perfect clean which was easier to clean and a more smooth finish to better wipe up spills. As far as the MC vs Chef...There are some different features and cooking modes which I think both of you already knew. The "roast" modes and the Sabbath mode were most of them. He did mention the knobs versus the touchpad. The display is less intuitive as well. When I saw it in the store one thing that really struck me was the display did not continue to show the time and the cooking mode like the MC did. that bothered me. I think I have decided to suck it up and buy the new model. Since I am putting a 30 inch Miele MC under it, I want them to match. I'm gutting my kitchen down to the studs and just can't see not doing it while I am at it. It slays me to pay that difference but I guess it comes down to whether or not the finish bothers you and if you like knobs or not! Keep me posted on what you decide! Robin

BSEWO30ECSD is the model number. I find it quiet. 1. It's noisier than the Miele dishwasher. 2. It's quieter than the microwave. 3. I believe the way it's installed will make a difference. Mine is surrounded by plywood, and there is a large space behind the oven. If it's installed in flimsy cabinets, a vibration could be set up that would amplify the sound. 4. Mine was installed mid-February, so it's a new model. It was purchased in November and shipped December 2016. 5. Some people are more sensitive to sound than others, but there is absolutely no problem with having a conversation with normal voices. And I'm pretty sure some people will complain if the can hear it at all (think the princess and the pea).

hi Rhome, thanks! I have read through many many old posts of yours and find your advice to be most helpful. In trying to keep my budget in check I am having to do mental gymnastics... if I cut back here then I can add more there. It's hurting my head.

Sears outlet online has some of the Elux non-icons in various locations...worth checking into if you go that route.

Ditto, Elux ovens, and as Anthony states, lotta problems with Fisher & Paykel ovens~~~~Do a Google search of Fisher & Paykel oven review.

Rhome was one of the lucky ones with those ovens, cept for the interior.

I always recommend single ovens, 2 single ovens if you need 2,
However if you Must do "Double Ovens", Wolf and Elux seem to have the least problems, alto some of both Wolf Doubles as well as Elux fail occasionally, but not enough to
"Hit The Radar Screen", here, alto Elux did do a fix and a redesign of their double oven around 2009-2010.

I've had the single >5 years now, completely trouble free, and the glide out racks still work as new~~~~~that is to say, "Silky Smoooooothh" and they glide Wayyyyyy out.
That's important to us as the oven is mounted below counter, but elevated about 6 inches off the floor.

3k for floor model F&P seems high... i bought the elux double (non icon) for just under 3k brand new. (I am in canada)

moving beyond the lovely mirror finish on the F&P. just love it but it doesn't make sense to pay more for something that could cause me problems. I am trying to afford built in refrigeration and a snazzy hood -- something's gotta give. The Elux will be just fine for me (unless Miele comes through with an amazing price vis a vis their architects and designers program which I have been approved for). Glad to get so many endorsements for the Elux here on GW.

My F&P ovens didn't need service until they were 6 years old and it was just the top oven so I have never been without an oven. It did require several trips, but then again so did my Miele DW and I love that thing also.

I absolutely love my F&P ovens. I am in a large metro area so getting someone to service them has been no issue. I will probably buy new F&Ps for the kitchen I am currently remodeling. (I have a thread about that!)

I don't have a single appliance in two homes that has not needed service or replacement by the 6 year mark. Huge bummer!

Wait- there was a known issue when I bought my ovens that something broke during self clean so I self cleaned my oven a few times right away, it broke and I got it fixed quickly and easily under warranty. I have continued to self-clean regularly after that. I use my ovens daily for everything from convection, roast and broil. They are awesome.

Are you in a large metro area?

If you're going for the glide-out racks, go test drive them. Kitchen Aid has them, but the ones saw did not glide nearly as smoothly as the E-lux. I never would have known that from looking at a web site.
