I have a marble cruet and...

it has a marble stopper. No big deal, no marking or signature. I picked it up at Goodwill for 5 bucks. It is gray marble with black streaks. But it is a cruet.

I thought I'd wash it and put my olive oil into it, as that would be much prettier a vessel than the plastic bottle of olive oil I use for everyday sauteing that I keep out next to my stove top.

The inside of the cruet is not polished, it is unfinished marble.

Then I read that olive oil stains marble. Well, I suppose if I dribble as I pour, it will stain the bottle on the outside, but now I wonder, should I even store olive oil in the marble cruet? Is is safe to do so? How can the interior of the bottle (raw marble rock) hurt the oil? There is no pour spout on the cruet, but the stopper fits securely.

Any advice on this appreciated. It is a cute cruet!

Thanks from Acey!
