Should I buy a Dacor double oven extended warranty?
Comments (5)Personally I detest extended warranties but even more so I detest the fact that I seem to be inclined to purchase them on certain items. My Dacor MOV227S double oven was installed 9/06. When the original Dacor warranty expired in 9/07 I purchased the extended warranty from the same company you mentioned and I paid $399.99 for a 3 year warranty which expires this fall. I'll probably buy another extension if available because there's a good chance we'll be selling our home in the next few years and it might be an enhancement that would appeal to a prospective buyer. It's not going to make or break the deal but it can't hurt. I did have reason to use Service Net last summer. I completely forgot about it until I read your post. The control board had an error notice. I called Service Net at dinner time to request service and someone called back the next morning. They scheduled repair and the company they used is the same service company that installed the replacement control board that corrected the heat probe/beeping issue. They're an authorized Dacor service company and they've serviced my old Sub Zeros previously. The tech came out, read the error code, called Dacor and confirmed the problem. He told me I needed a new fan and added that he would order new fans for both ovens because that's what Dacor instructed him to do. There was no problem with Service Net paying for both fans even though only one needed to be replaced. It only took a little over a week from the initial call to the completed repair. It's possible that the service company expedited repair since I'm one of their customers but they never mentioned it....See MoreDacor Discovery Wall ovens
Comments (6)I had issues initially, as every single oven they brought to my house had chipped enamel. Dacor finally had one of their QA engineers hand pick an oven and drive it out to my house from California (I live in Arizona). He also installed it. Dacor gave me some freebies along with an extended warranty at no charge for the inconvenience. They had a problem in their supply channel, specifically regarding how resellers were stacking ovens in their warehouses when they weren't supposed to be stacked. All is well now. I had my controller replaced with updated software, the oven works like a charm. I can't find a single thing wrong with it. I've read the complaints on here about inaccurate temps, uneven baking, etc., but honestly I have never experienced anything like that. All my food comes out evenly baked. They key is to let the oven pre-heat -- don't change cycles while it's pre-heating, just set it and wait for the beep. Overall a good product, albeit overpriced. Make sure you check the unit out thoroughly before allowing it to be installed, and pay particular attention to whether the door hangs square and look for enamel chips where the door meets the interior of the oven....See MoreDacor oven - no heat in upper oven
Comments (17)Based on what i have read it sounds like this may be the relay board for the lower oven. My suggestion is to read all the comments here and other forums( i have learned a lot from doing searches - including about the high temp reset button, which dacor wouldn't tell me about) and saved a lot of money. I would check this first since it is easy to do. I have the same oven and the bottom unit had the same problem about 6 months ago and we never used it much so i didn't try to fix it. Yesterday we started hearing beeps from the oven so i shut the breaker and put it back on and i got a very weird display "050 JJJJ 060" in the display and nothing would happen with the top oven. I called Dacor today and they told me that this is not a normal error code and that it could be from lightning/power surge but I probably needed a new oven control. I called a parts place I have used before and the price for the control was about $300, the top relay was $200 and the bottom oven relay was $80. He told me that I could replace them myself and i should start with the oven control. I also learned from Dacor that the touchpad is no longer available, if I needed that part. My light works so I was guessing that the touchpad worked. I I figured that I may try it since it would cost over double if i called a repair service, but since the oven is now 15 years old and the bottom oven didn't work i decided to go look at new ovens and figured it may be easier to junk it. I then got depressed over the prices of a good oven. Anyway i came home and decided to try the breaker again and see what code I got(I had already tried several times) I got the same code and decided to start pushing buttons, somehow the clock came on and then i tried to put in a cooking mode and it started working. Just for kicks i decided to try the bottom oven and it started working, it hadn't worked before for 6-12 months. I have no idea what is going on, but the word "off" came up at some point and i was looking at the manual and you can lock out the unit by hitting cancel and secure. I have no idea if we had locked it by accident but now both ovens are working. I can't say for how long, and but I will probably just replace it if it acts up again. Anyway, I would learn as much as I could and try to fix it yourself, sounds like most technicians are not very good at diagnosing these units anyway. Good luck...See MoreDacor oven door hinge is squeaky
Comments (8)The hinges on our Dacor Millennia wall oven can be removed from the door after the entire door is removed from the oven. I just refuse to believe that Dacor's Epicure oven are significantly different. Look in the INSTALLATION manual (on page 8, I think) for instructions on removing the door. The full service manual describes this too, as well as how to remove the hinge from within the door (page 8-22). What specific Dacor oven do you have (model number)? But I suspect a good lubricant will do the job. What you need is a high temperature lubricant. There are some really good DuPont lubricants perfect for this job. Search for the DuPont Krytox brand lubricants on eBay. The one on there now is a general purpose lubricant that would do the job nicely...but it's not rated for food contact. From the Dupont site... Is Krytox® Food Grade Approved? Our Krytox® Food Grade Lubricants (FG24, FG34, and FG36) are USDA H-1 approval and have been determined by the NSF to be in compliance with FDA 21 CFR, Part 178, Section 178.3570. These products are acceptable as lubricants with incidental food contact (H-1) for use in and around food processing areas. Such compounds may be used on food processing equipment as a protective anti-rust film, as a release agent on gaskets or seals of tank closures, and as a lubricant for machine parts and equipment in locations in which there is a potential exposure of the lubricated part to food. ---- Notice the last sentence. Are you going to put food on the hinge? Are you going to clean the hinge area with a rag that is then used to touch your food? I have used the Krytox on eBay for lubricating the hinges in my old oven. Need more info? I can find a source if need be. I'm sure there are many other lubricants at less cost. (Krytox lubricants are VERY expensive.) Here is a link that might be useful: Dacor wall oven service manual...See Moresshrivastava
