Try putting some vegetable oil on the hinges and see if that solves the problem. If not, for $255 I'd live with the squeak.

Our Decor oven squeaks like mice in heat but hey, I can put up with a lot of mice in whatever condition for $255 as long as they are not running around the house. We did get the control panel replaced because the oven light switch became possessed. Nothing like going into the kitchen at 2am to get some water and have a heart attack because the oven light is clicking and going on an off at random intervals. Of course, when we bake, the oven light never came on. $400 later, it's all fixed.

Thanks for the replies. The noise comes from an area inside the door that can't be accessed to lubricate. I was hoping that someone had found a way to get to this area without replacing the hinges. I will see what the appliance dealer says tomorrow. This noise is very loud and irritating, especially when baking cookies where I'm opening the door so frequently. Amcook, it sounds like you have the same problem.

These ovens have been a huge disappointment. Two Thanksgiving dinners have almost been ruined due to oven failure (out of the three Thanksgivings I've had the ovens). I should take the time to do a review as a warning to other consumers.

The hinges on our Dacor Millennia wall oven can be removed from the door after the entire door is removed from the oven. I just refuse to believe that Dacor's Epicure oven are significantly different. Look in the INSTALLATION manual (on page 8, I think) for instructions on removing the door. The full service manual describes this too, as well as how to remove the hinge from within the door (page 8-22). What specific Dacor oven do you have (model number)?

But I suspect a good lubricant will do the job. What you need is a high temperature lubricant. There are some really good DuPont lubricants perfect for this job. Search for the DuPont Krytox brand lubricants on eBay. The one on there now is a general purpose lubricant that would do the job nicely...but it's not rated for food contact.

Notice the last sentence. Are you going to put food on the hinge? Are you going to clean the hinge area with a rag that is then used to touch your food?

I have used the Krytox on eBay for lubricating the hinges in my old oven.

Need more info? I can find a source if need be. I'm sure there are many other lubricants at less cost. (Krytox lubricants are VERY expensive.)

mrtimewise: thanks for the very useful information. I spoke with another service guy today and he suggested removing the door, holding it upright, and using a little WD-40 on it (without actually taking the door apart to expose the hinges). I also spoke with the salesperson that sold the ovens to me and he said the part that is squeaky is the exposed area, not down inside the door. He also suggested WD-40, but when I mentioned food-safe products, he said maybe I should use vegetable oil. Then he said maybe not because of the heat. He also said graphite might be a solution, but he's going to ask around and call me back. I guess I will get as many opinions as people I ask...

I think I will try to lubricate the hinges myself. If I replace them the new ones may develop squeaks too. I am less worried about the food-safe aspect than the heat, so I will look into the Krytox products.

BTW, I now recall that it was this current Dacor oven to which I applied the Krytox lubricant to the hinge area...specifically to the area which interfaces with the notches on the mating parts between the oven and door. This was to make things slide easier when I next have to remove the door.

freshman- did you call Dacor and ask customer service for suggestions? They have a pretty good technical staff that they can consult- hopefully they could at least give you the name of a product to use that's safe.

Mrtimewise- Thanks for correcting your model. Since I have a 3 year old Millemium I'll save this information in case It develops a squeak.

Dacor Oven Light problem. Lights come on or stay on at wrong time and won't switch off from control panel.

Fix: Remove the control panel. There is a grey flat ribbon cable that goes back to the circuit board. That cable terminates in a plug in to the circuit board with five contacts. Carefully remove the plug, clean it with some steel wool and perhaps some contact cleaner, clean the recepticle too if you can, then plug it back in. Fixed mine.
