Dang! That's one big ole' shad, but to get its picture just as it was being speared by that anhingha(I think that's how you spell it, but I might be off a bit)took a quick eye! I would love to see a pic of the bird swallowing that sucker, but then, shad are about as slimy as a scaly fish can get, so I guess it would just slide down like boiled okra!

Poor guy may've bitten off more'n he can chew.

He's speared it with his lower beak. He'll have to extricate it first before getting it in his mouth, and I'll bet the shad isn't going to sit still for that.

And he'll have to do all that before he gets tired and sinks under the weight!

I watched the whole thing. He swam to shore with it and then slid it down lengthwise after a few minutes.

Cool bird photo! Looks like a female Anhinga to me as well. How big is that pond? Looks huge!

I can't tell you which specie but it definetly is a cormoran.
