5 Homes, 5 Uniquely Feminine Styles
Get ideas from very personal takes on the classic estate, Victorian retreat, '70s ranch, beach getaway, and French country home
I recently showed you homes with masculine energy, so it's only fair that I flip it around and share spaces with more feminine energy. From a woman's fantasy getaway cottage in the woods to a sprawling mansion, each space has a traditionally feminine touch.
This is not to stereotype gender preferences or styles; everyone can appreciate and create these homes, and not every woman is adding flowers and ruffles wherever she can. Let's just leave it at this: None of these spaces will ever be accused of being a "man cave."
Here are five such spaces and links to their extended Houzz Tours.

Edith Wharton lovingly designed The Mount, her home in the Berkshires. She paid very special attention to the ground and gardens, aided by her niece, landscape architect Beatrix Farrand.
This classic and light-filled grand entryway/gallery on the main floor sets the tone for visitors.
During a showhouse project, Bunny Williams reinterpreted the dining room with the spirit of Wharton in mind. She had one photograph to go on, which showed white French armchairs, a round Victorian dining table and a cushion for a favorite dog.

Sandra Foster has magically transformed an old hunting cabin on her property into a dreamy Victorian retreat.
A tented ceiling, chandelier and miles of ruffles make this cabin a soft place to land and enjoy a little solitude in the woods.
Of all the white used throughout the 9-by-14 cabin, Foster says, "I love it. It’s relaxing, pure, feminine, light, clean, sophisticated and dainty."

This beautiful home in Birmingham, Ala., was inspired by a love of French style. The entryway, with its luxe fabrics and ornate touches, lets visitors know what's in store.
The kitchen is beautiful in creamy white. It's elegant yet convenient and comfortable for family gathering.
Among its feminine touches: soft textiles on the window treatments and seat cushions, as well as a sparkling crystal chandelier.

Dark tiles and granite were ripped out of this home to create a light coastal vibe. It's a modern and tailored update on the shabby chic look.
A pop of bright pink flowers gives this room a girly feel. This could easily be transformed to a more masculine guest room by swapping out the three pillow covers for pinstripe or plaid.

Floral wallpaper, curvaceous lamps and a handbag draped on a doorknob give this home a subtly feminine flair that's not too much girliness for the men of the house.
Damask is a good wallpaper choice for this subtly feminine look. The chandelier and botanicals bring the pretty.
Ruffled curtains, a mirrored desk and a sinuous Panton chair make this a favorite spot for the woman of this house.
