A different white bird comes to visit

Holy smokes, Sophie's right! This guy is smaller than the other white one I posted, and he's got yellow legs instead of black. This morning he was across the pond and I was just standing still. He flew across and landed like 20 feet from me as if to say "Ok, hurry up and take your pic, I got stuff to do." It was amazing.

Looks like an immature little blue heron to me. The bill is the clue; It has the same coloration as that of the adult with it's deep blue plumage.

Since last August I now live in W.Massachusetts but prior to that I lived in N.E. Ohio. According to the National Audubon Society Ohio has about 413 native species, which is the highest number in any of the states, and Michigan ranks #2 with about 400 species. In less than one year I managed to photo document 117 species in our yard and another 21 species at a small lake nearby. I saw a few more but I only officially counted the ones that I had photographed and had the identity confirmed by an ornithologist at the county extension service.

Doctorant We many cattle egrets down here. And when they are in breeding plumage, they are just beautiful. Here is a little information on them. Connie Hagar was a noted ornithologist in Aransas County, Texas arriving here in 1935 and died here in 1973. She was very well respected by many ornithologist, including Roger Tory Peterson. In 1952 or 1953 she identified a cattle egret on Mustang Island which was considered the first here in Texas, but it stayed for only a few days. Then by 1956 cattle egret reappeared on Mustang Island. And today, we have them all over south Texas.

That looks more like a cattle egret to me. The beak is yellow and doesn't have a black tip.
