The Beauty of all that power

Hey folks,
While working part-time at a hardware store one weekend, I witnessed the awesome power of a pair "Sparrow Hawks."
I was at the front customer service desk when this flash of feathers came past me; one of the hawks was chasing a one of the several sparrows that get in the store and captured it and took it to the female in the back warehouse. Although I felt for the sparrow, it was quite a site to see this hawk ducking the lights and other obstackles in it's way to catch it's prey - SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!
I also noticed that the sparrows stayed very low key and quiet after that first capture too, they ain't dumb for sure...

We raised a kestrel (Spsrrow hawk)from a baby that my son found on the road. She was almost dead when he found her. and I used my special formula (carnation evaporated milk mixed with water, and Karo syrup), because we couldn't get her to eat. Boy, she revived almost imediately after getting some of the formula!! Even as an unfledged chick, she was so strong! It was our pleasure to see her on her way when she flew and we taught her how to hunt; and that fall I was out in our back pasture when I heard the distinctive cry of kestrels. They were migrating south. I gave my whistle, and the whole flock turned around, flew over my head, and landed inj a wooded copse nearby. Now, I will always believe that our "Zephyr" was in that flock; else why did they turn around when they heard my whistle? Watch the median strip of the interstate .You can always see one hovering there looking at an insect from about 20 feet. up!

WOWZERS!!! What a selection there is out there! I would start by getting yourself a copy of or heading to the website of The Lily Garden. Their new catalog should be out soon. What's great about their catalog is that it's set up so that the early bloomers are listed first and the later bloomers at the end. They're also seperated by color within the different divisions (Asiatic, Trumpet, Oriental, etc.) What's even more convenient is their listings of recommended varieties that will provide blooms from late May and even up to early September!! Keep in mind that bloom times vary depending on your region, climate, yada yada yada. But this might be a good start for you to get some ideas and see the diversity of Lilium that exists! Their quality is excellent and I've gotten to know the owners/breeders as they've supported my efforts in hybridizing and micropropagating lilies. Very generous folks that have been in the business for many years. Drool over their selections and let us know what catches your eye. They're a tad pricey on some varieties through as some are exclusive to them, but some others you could easily find through other cheaper, but reliable sources. Best of luck! You can use something like this splitter: http://www.amazon.com/Conntek-YL1430520-Generator-Adapter-Connentor/product-reviews/B002MGJ2F4 Note that it still has only two 15/20 amp receptacles for a max of 40 amps at 120V. A 6600 watt gen will provide 55 amps at 120VAC. You will need to balance the load and you can only get 20 amps from each with that splitter. If you want your full power out, you can get it with a splitter for 30 amp receptacles, which is hard to find and inconvenient. Or you can draw a bit more power from one of the other 120V receptacles on the gen, but not more than 27.5 amps total from either winding, so you need to find out how the other windings are connected to the 120V receptacles.

I have older beamvac. Head crashed; purchased a unit called ACE, proclaimed to fit all models. It DOES fit my metal wand but without any power cord between two. My BeamVac has cord hard-wired into it.

Should also read 240v across red and black. Something apparently is wrong with the machine If you're getting the proper reading at the cord connector terminal inside the dryer. DLE7200WE/00 may be the correct model. DLE720WE doesn't search directly.

Flo, if I saw a hawk flying through my Home Depot, I'm sure I'd be stunned! Bet that doesn't happen often. With all the HOSP inside, it would be a hawk "heaven", LOL!

bcubed, I'll bet you're right and that your "Zephyr" was in that flock! I've often read that when caring for an injured hawk, imprinting is a concern and that they often can't be released into the wild. You and your son obviously did a good job!

Please remember that it is illegal to have a native bird in your possession, dead or alive, even injured or abandoned. If you find one, you need to get it to a licensed rehabber immediately. They know how to feed it properly, taking into consideration proper nutrition. They can also give medications if necessary.
