Yo, Wayne? You Around?

Or anyone else who feels confident on snake ID's! There have been a couple of snake questions at the Florida Forum site lately, and if you are around, Wayne, I wondered if you could take a look and see if I figured them out correctly.

Here is a link to the first post. Hope you'll check it out for us!

Thanks,

Marcia

Here's another link to a recent post. I'm pretty sure on this one, as well as the first one, but would love a real herper to comment, as well. I LOVE when folks at Florida Garden post photos and ask for info on snakes, instead of grabbing a shovel to bash them with. So I always try to help when I can, and opinions on my ID's is always welcome, along with any interesting info that might help educate folks.

Thanks!
Marcia

Hi Wayne, I also love snakes and do my best to relocate them, but a few years ago we came across a very pretty snake that was after a toad in my yard. I live in deep south Texas, 7 miles from the Mexican border just to give you the territory of where the snake was found. This snake was about 2 feet at most and was a light tan color with extreme pronouced brown diamonds. It was the end of February and a cool morning (low 70s) so it was moving very slow. My kids were looking at the toad and I noticed what I thought was a stick next to the toad and grabbed it to move it out of the way when I suddenly realized what it was. I dropped it right away but it moved very slow due to the cool morning. we put it in a container and took it out to a shrubby area just outside of town. Somehow I have always wondered what that snake was as I have never seen one like that before. My thought is that it may have been a copperhead snake since they range from really light to reddish copper to really dark almost black colors depending what part of the valley they are found. Still those diamonds were very pronounced on a short and thick snake. We have quite a few species down here but few poisonous ones. Any thoughts? Josie

Thank you all for thinking of me of Christin's Heaven Day. We've been very busy these last few weeks. Unfortunately, it hasn't been anything fun. My dad has been in the hospital for the last 3 weeks. He ended up having major surgery because of unnecessary tests that they put him through. He is on the mend now, though, thank God. We made it through Christin's Heaven Day and her birthday on the 13th, alright. I will try to respond to all the new posts as soon as I can. Thanks for thinking of me and missing me! :-) Lu

Just putting in my two cents' worth. My tile is Roman Collection French Blue Diamond. Unfortunately, I don't see it anymore where I purchased it (tilebar.com). I have maple cabinets with crema antelope granite, and my island and butler's pantry are white cabinets with marron cohiba granite. It coordinates well with them, at least I think so. :) Good luck with your decision! All the previous suggestions are gorgeous! I will probably be building again in the next 12-18 months and have lots of great ideas to consider!

Hello - we have quotes for 2 different garage door makes, around the same price ($1000) each. Replacing just the door, not the hardware, keypad etc. The garage is detached, and not heated or used as a workshop or anything, just car and storage. Wayne Dalton 8300 R12 vs. Garaga Triforce R10. For New England climate. Any recommendations, or warnings? Thank you

Thanks, guys! I felt confident about the hognose, and I THOUGHT I had puzzled out the itsy-bitsy snake, too, as a baby crowned snake, but it turned out it was a baby Florida brown snake, instead. A new one for me! Glad to have learned about it, and I appreciate the help from you folks!

I try every chance I get to tell the Florida Garden forum about our snakes and to encourage people to refrain from bashing them with shovels. I'm familiar with many of our snakes, but this little juvie brown snake fooled me. And the hognose took me a little bit of study, as I'm used to the more common silvery coloration of our southern hognose.

Thanks again for your help! Always something new to learn.
