Look at tilebar.com. I just ordered my backsplash from them --came quickly and in good shape. I did get a waterjet mosaic and it was a bit of a splurge but I love it.

Do you have pics of your kitchen? If not built, pics of your countertop, flooring & cabinets?

Do you know what colors you will be using in the rest of the house? In the rooms next to the kitchen? Is it an open kitchen?
Where will the backsplash be, i.e., behind stove and sink, to the ceiling, etc.?

Pratt and Larson MB 77 or MB89 in a combination of cream, taupe, and black?

Thank you! These are wonderful. I'm investigating all of them. Please keep them coming as they are inspiring. Cabinets aren't finished so no pics yet. But here is a drawing. Some recent changes mean less backsplash than before so I can splurge.

It is an open floor plan. Pantry and mudroom will be checkerboard off white and gray tiles and gray walls. Light blues, grays, beige, with heavy trim and espresso beams. White ceilings

If I wanted a statement backsplash and was willing to spend a fair bit, I'd be looking at the hand painted tiles at fireclay. They'll even customize your colors for some of them.

Here is a pic that gives a good idea of the granite and cabinets. But floor will be medium dark wire brushed oak.

I am concerned about granite competing with a statement backsplash. So much so that I might consider changing my perimeter to a Caesarstone.

Have you looked at Tabarka as a sub for the discontinued Ann Sacks tile?

Very pretty granite, but I would choose it or a statement backsplash. I think that granite is a statement all by itself.

they shipped it ups freight. shipping is free. i took a pic to show my contractor how it is delivered. i felt like it was a bit risky ordering tile this way but they were really nice and helpful. i would definitely use them again

send for samples... they are small but then i ordered one tile of the stuff i thougtht was "the one" and went from there.

I like the way the pattern is subtle so it doesn't fight with my counters which are mother of pearl quartzite.... it kind of pops without exploding

@JuniperStreet: I'm glad you mentioned the fact that you would consider swapping out the stone if you went with a multi-colored patterned tile. Having both varied colors and strong patterns would be too much with that granite. You could do a monochromatic colored tile (pulled from the granite) with an interesting shape or texture, like the examples shown, as long as you are careful with tones and shapes.

Ken Mason Tile makes some great patterned tiles and shapes; they will do custom colors as well. They have many, many examples of unique tiles on their website. I have their beveled, relief arabesque on our fireplace.

I also like the Motif series from Pratt and Larson (but maybe not with the granite in this photo). They have many different shapes and patterns --- see their website for more. They run about $60 to $80 per square foot.

I agree with a few other posters above. Choose one statement pattern in either the counter top or the back splash. So if you stick with your chosen counter top, I would consider some ceramic architecture (interesting shaped tiles) but not a busy, loud pattern. On the other hand, if you switch to a calm, more uniform counter, then the back splash can be the star.

I like marble slabs ... White with grey veining, book matched on walls.

I LOVE the Encore crackle that Romy is suggesting. I think it has depth but also a classic look that will be more timeless.

If you are looking for WOW, I'd say that some of the New Ravenna tile is quite striking, and with their geometric tiles that are derivative of old world patterns, may have a bit of lasting appeal. The Esmerelda Stone Mosaic and the Silk Road Line are really beautiful.

I would do a dimensional tile in the dark brown that matches your BA spots. I agree with PP on changing out the counters on the perimeter so that the backsplash and granite can stand on their own.

pzbbbbd, I love that tile! I saw it in a tile store and thought it was gorgeous till I found out the price.lol I don't think it was anywhere near the price you were quoted thought. It's absolutely gorgeous! Would love to see the finished kitchen.

Cani it was a splurge but I didn't need that much so it made it easier to do it.

I have heard great things about tile from cheaperfloors.com and I always like to use floor and decor. They have the best prices. However, not sure they will have the massive selection you may be looking for. Everyone has posted some beautiful backsplashes!

Have you seen Pratt and Larson Scraffito series? Maybe one of the all over patterns in a brown or taupe?

Just because someone (AHEM kd) had to remind me of Tempest Tile, here are a few from them. With your richly detailed cabinets, I think you will want a simple backsplash. I like the color of the subway (yes, I know you said no subway, but it may be the better choice) and you could tie in other colors with the selected 'picture'.

And since I'm breaking all the rules, here's one with a mosaic :) (which normally, I would never consider), but there's something very cheerful about this.

Just putting in my two cents' worth. My tile is Roman Collection French Blue Diamond. Unfortunately, I don't see it anymore where I purchased it (tilebar.com). I have maple cabinets with crema antelope granite, and my island and butler's pantry are white cabinets with marron cohiba granite. It coordinates well with them, at least I think so. :)

Good luck with your decision! All the previous suggestions are gorgeous! I will probably be building again in the next 12-18 months and have lots of great ideas to consider!
