I'm not a school teacher; ....... but, it's true most sounds bats make during echolocation occur beyond range of human hearing. Our normal (human) hearing range is about 20 Hz to 15-20 kHz, where most bat vocalizations occur in the 9 kHz to to 200 kHz range - so there is some overlap there. Obviously, we can hear bats making many sounds - those made by their claws as they move while at roost or the fluttering sound of their wings, either at roost or in flight. Most humans can hear some of the sounds made when bats are in echolocation mode, and almost anyone with normal hearing, if you describe what to listen for, can hear faint clicks on calm nights while insect-eating bats are nearby and in flight, the 'click sound' being part of the chirps used during echolocation. I don't consider my hearing to be all that sharp, but just last week I did observe some bats clicking as I stood quietly watching them while waiting for my dog to finish his chore in the gloaming. Too, from a short distance, people with normal hearing would have no trouble hearing some of the vocal communication that passes between mother and pup. Al

Earlier this year, a northern leopard frog ate the two green tree frogs that were also living in the screenroom with it (I searched the websites and none told me leopard frogs ate other frogs). I only found out when I saw back legs sticking out of its mouth. That leopard frog got immediately evicted from the screenroom in a rush. It also must of ate the brown tree frog it had a baby frog with. Now there's only green tree frogs allowed in the screenroom. It must of happened so fast because I didn't even hear it scream (then again, it got eaten head first). It is horrible that birds eat them. There's also a cat that roams the neighborhood here that attacks them. That's why I would rather have the green tree frogs in my protected screenroom with the orchids. I also have a black and orange poison dart frog in its indoor tank. That's a very pretty frog you have.

We decided to clean all the mucky water off the pool cover so the frogs might move on to more suitable breeding grounds. As we were working I could hear a frog "singing" very close to me. I started carefully searching and I found this little guy in an upturned fold in the edge of the pool cover. He was quite accomodating about letting me take his photo (do you think he was scared senseless?) Anyway, I'm pretty sure he is a Gray Tree Frog, do you agree? and will he move out of the fold on his own, or do you think I should move him from there to a tree or down to the lake? Opinions please.

I don't know if this will help but....we have a fish pond/dog pond..no fish the frogs moved in. i noticed the tadpoles were stuck. I put a log across the top. as they got older they hung on the log. Later the frogs used the logs to go back and forth to the water. AS long as the water doesn't freeze to thick. you can wiggle the log to keep an air opening. With a pool you may have to use a large branch. Good luck, but remember we can unfortunately only cheat nature so much.
