I took a drive down to Jefferson County, Missouri yesterday in search of Lined Snakes. I ended up finding five of them and a few other things also. The results:

5 Lined Snakes

3 Speckled Kingsnakes

Red Milk Snake

Eastern Garter Snake

Western Worm Snake

7 Prairie Ringneck Snakes

TMTC Six-Lined Racerunners

TMTC Ground Skinks

TMTC Five-Lined Skinks

TMTC Fence Lizards

Southern Coal Skinks

Three-Toed Box Turtle

6 Slimy Salamanders

Longtail Salamander

American Toad

A few notable non-herp species:

TMTC Scorpions

5 Tarantulas

Mole

This was the first time I've ever seen a Missouri tarantula. It surprised the hell out of me when I flipped a large rock and saw a huge, hairy, eight-legged creature underneath! I had forgotten all about these guys being found on glades!

WOW! thats a whole lot of hunting going on there! sounds like you had a blast! i worked with reptiles and amphibians for about 4 years but unfortunately it was in a pet store and i have seen some really sad stories! i feel the best way to enjoy these little critters is by seeing them in there natural habitats like your doing.have fun!

Yea I did have a blast, but I was extremely worn out by the end of the day! It was very hot and humid outside! Thanks for the comments. I agree that seeing them in their natural habitat is the best way to enjoy them. Also, I forgot to mention that the Lined Snake was a lifer for me. They're pretty cool, little snakes, especially the pattern on their bellies!

I'm probably spoiling my karma by typing this, but I've accepted every windows update that came down the pike on two different machines and never had a problem afterwards that I could blame on the update itself. That includes anything having to do with the .net framework.One thing I don't buy into, however, is the claim that you can "continue working during the update process". If necessary, I will postpone installing updates (usually for a few hours, no more) until the machine is not needed for anything else and then let the install run. Does doing things this way really help? Don't know...but it certainly doesn't hurt.

When I used Disk Cleanup I generally selected 2,3,4 and 5 to clean out. These days I use Ccleaner as I feel it does a much better job. I leave the program settings at default and have never had a problem. I have included the download link below if you are interested in the program. The version linked is the slim version that comes along and not carrying the Yahoo Toolbar with it. On the defrag there is a free program I used to use and many still do as it is a popular program. It is Diskeeper Lite. It may do a better job of defragging, it is certainly a safe program and Majorgeeks is a very safe download site. Moni, Congrats on the new house. So, if it hasn't rained any more since that one day, I'm guessing you are somewhere near Sharon and Lisa ('cause they aren't getting rain either). Ouch! Hope the foot heals quickly and I hope you're current on your tetanus shot. My son stepped on a nail recently and couldn't remember how along ago he last had a tetnus shot, so he headed to the clinic in town to get one. At the rate things are going, it may be a while before you get to dig out any of that devil's grass. We have a good shot at rain next week. I hope y'all do too. I cannot imagine you not being able to go out and ride your bike. I hope your life gets back to normal soon, and I hope you're not climbing the walls with boredom. Dawn

The glades are unique and wonderful places here in Jeff. co.
I feel fortunate to live about 15 mi. from both of them. The flowers that are in bloom there are extraordinary right now.
It's interesting the amount of Lined snakes that are in the area. They are little beauties. The Racerunners are certainly everywhere. I find that they are not too disturbed when you sit and watch them for a while. They go about their business and will even crawl up on your legs if you sit still enough.
