GE Profile dryer - noisy?

Dryer died yesterday! Consumer Reports rates the GE Profile DPSE810EG as Best overall, but says that it's a noisy machine. Our laundry room is right near the bedrooms so I wonder how noisy it is? I'm planning to order it online and am trying to avoid looking for one that's on the sales floor to listen to it.

I'm not committed to the Profile - I've just found a good price on it. Many people on this site like the Bravos (it's a lot more expensive and folks seem to get the washer/dryer combo -- I only need the dryer). Any advice?

If I were only going to buy a dryer, I'd most likely get a Whirlpool dryer with at least 7 cu ft capacity, and a door that opens downward. Most importantly, it would need to have a sensor so that clothes wouldn't overdry.

I had a GE dryer and it dried clothes well, but they also came out wrinkled. After that, I had a Sears Kenmore dryer which was made by Whirlpool and now a Maytag Bravos which is also made by Whirlpool. Both of these dryers have 'soft heat' which virtually eliminates wrinkles.

The link I'm posting here might be a better one. This dryer has all the features which are important to me: big capacity (can dry comforters), sensor to prevent overdrying, drop-down door, Wrinkle Guard which keeps tossing clothes 'til you can get to them, plus it is very quiet. Hope this helps.

I just bought and had installed a whirlpool side by side fridge the only on that would fit in my space. I waited 7.5 months to get it because I needed black , 2 days in the noise is driving me nuts it is the motor I can tell shuts off when either door opens . I locked the ice water dispenser on the door and it stopped but was that a fluke? but the others here want to use that feature. I looked into ways to sound proof the noise and will try that , like putting a rubber matt under it and sound proofing material behind it on the wall as what I have read the motor noise is in the air ( make sense who knows ) , the decibel reading , using a phone app, was 52 - 69 that was holding the phone in different places. I emailed my rep no response and now I know why they are all louder I think, I miss my 24 year old one ( except the way it was too cold inside who wants fresh frozen veggies ha ha ) why does this have to be very upsetting.

Thanks, I finally found the Laundry Forum! Yes, the new dryer-like the old Maytag- is electric & the vents are open-not clogged with dryer lint. Odd, as the old Maytage dried great- it just wouldn't shut off automatically when finished so we had to set a timer & shut it off manually.

I bought the GE Harmony HE washer and dryer set in April. I have been happy with it overall - I believe my clothes come out clean and smelling fresh and the washer is gentle on our delicates, including my DH's lycra cycling clothes. I would like to point out 2 issues I have had: 1. Occasionally, when I turn on the washer or dryer, the LED screen doesn't light up for anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds. 2. Three weeks after taking delivery of the set, the dryer developed a body odor stink. The clothes that come out of the dryer smell clean but the interior of the dryer stinks of B.O. and I can't get rid of it. Good luck! Try_Hard ,,,

"Soft heat" has nothing specifically to do with preventing wrinkles. It was originally a feature and marketing term touted by Kenmore years ago. It works by starting the heat at a high output when the clothes are wetter at the beginning of the drying cycle, then throttling the heat down to a lower output toward the end. Dryers with this feature "back in the day" didn't have a choice of temperature settings and were typically advertised for the simplicity of one cycle and one heat being safe for all fabrics.

The linked Whirlpool model WED5900S achieves a similar effect via the "Resource Saver" feature, and also holds the temperature more consistent by running a low-wattage heating element for longer periods instead of cycling a high-wattage element on/off frequently.

ebk08, the only reason I recommended the Whirlpool over the Bravos is because of the drop-down door. They have the same capacity and the same features otherwise.
