Feed the tree, if you move the yews, what are you going to have before much time passes? An overgrown mess of shrub form trees that contribute a negative value to the overall property! The pictures offered are close-ups so don't explain the overall scene. If we were to see one that did, I think we'd see large shrubs that are destined to become trees because their width can't be accommodated by the space available. We'd see these future trees growing up into the bottom of a larger tree. It won't look good because the lower trees will grow sideways, reaching for light and when all the canopies mix. It'll look messy in addition to the negative obstructing effects that have been already pointed out by others. It'd be better to sell the Yews to someone who needs them.

Oh I get them everyday along with bunnies and racoons. They waddle on top of the block walls and run instead of flying the second I step outside. Sometimes they come out to front and run down the street. It's really wild here, they know they are safe, no one bothers them. What is rare to see is a roadrunner. They usually come around just in the summer. I hear coyotes about once a week and just today saw the pair of red tailed hawks. Isn't nature wonderful!

We-ellll. . . . I was kind of a pyro at the time, with access to acetone (= cheap nail polish remover; the expensive kind is usually ethyl acetate) as the result of being a chemistry undergrad. This had previously been used to, for example, light flat tennis balls on fire and throw them out of my (4th-floor) dorm window, set brief but impressively large fires on the (ceramic-tiled) hallways, and so forth. I'm not saying any of this was a *good idea*, please note, but it seemed like one when I was however old I was (19? 20?). The dorm rooms had a sink in a corner, with a mirror above them. (I'm trying to recall whether it was just a mirror or a whole medicine cabinet, and drawing a blank.) For some reason, I had the plant sitting on the sink -- possibly I'd just watered it, possibly I'd run out of room for plants elsewhere in the room. If I'm remembering correctly, the idea was to spray acetone on the *mirror*, and then light it on fire, so the fire would be reflected and look bigger and brighter and so forth, but I didn't take flammable vapor and dripping into account, so I kind of lit the whole sink area on fire, including the plant. The whole thing only lasted a few seconds. I do not recall whether the fire looked bigger/brighter, because I realized midway through that I'd set my plant on fire and was distracted by that. Hence, accidentally lighting plants on fire. The incident scared me enough that I believe it was the end of the acetone period, though I was still a pyro for a couple years after. Hasten to reiterate: not actually a good idea. Your results may vary. Do not attempt.

Ron, you are right again! That is a Lawson cultivar. A Blue China Fir is directly opposite and I somehow got turned around when looking at the picture, in my own yard no less! It's a jungle out there. lol Thank you for the correction. I don't know the cultivar name as it was obtained from a cutting I took from a tree I spotted as the bluest I had ever seen. I have another blue cultivar, but all the cuttings grow up and fall over. They don't die, they just fall over. One fell over and now I'm making a hedge out of it because the branches are growing upright. Time for a new thread on Chamaecyparis lawsoniana.
