Thanks for your input. Actually, I took this picture about a year ago outside my kitchen window. We knew it was a hawk, but didn't know what kind. By the way, do they eat pheasants? I have a lot of pheasants come into our yard to eat and one day I saw a whole lot of feathers and part of a carcass out by where they eat. I live on a ranch far from town and we have lots of hawks and owls and eagles out here.

A sharp shinned hawk is not going to take a pheasant. However, the GHO could very well do so.

I made a typo about the age! I meant that the bird was born before 2004. But if the picture was taken last year, then it was born 2002 or before.
