Oh Kara, I'm sorry Kuro ran off like that. At least you got him neutered and he's not adding to the problem. He's a little scrapper - he'll be fine. I had a stray I named "Lefty" because when I trapped him and took him to the vet, they said he only had one testicle, and they had to operate to remove the second one... anyway, he did the same thing when I brough him back from the vet. Months and months of building trust literally flew right through the window - just like the screen wasn't even there. He wouldn't come near me after that, but at least he was fixed. Thanks for the tip Olyagrove. I live in Leesburg, and our local Humane Society offers spay/neuter certificates. It's not as cheap as $10, but it's at least a discount anyway. I took in a frightened baby back in November - I heard him wailing down the street - his cries broke my heart. So I found him and brought him in. He was so hungry and so very sweet. At the time, my beloved Purrella deVille was dieing from heart failure, so I think Wailin' was sent to me for a reason. Not like I NEEDED another cat or anything... but anyway, I bought the certificate for Wailin', and it was a little over 40 bucks. His was cheaper because he's a boy. I'm not sure what it costs for a spay certificate. But even with the certificate, after the shots and FIV/Leukemia tests, his bill from the vet was about 124.00. So, 124 + 40 = 164 times 5 babies = $820. More if some of them are girls. Yikes. Then there's the booster shots... I do wish I'd found this stray kitty BEFORE she got pregnant. It would have been A LOT cheaper. I honestly don't know how I'm going to afford this. So, wish me luck! ;-) Kara, I hope you see Kuro again so you at least know he's OK. He looks so sweet.

He is now on Science diet, neutered, well loved but still outside. :( We can't let him in or it will be pee-fest 2006 w/ him and the other FIVE. *sigh*

He is absolutely ADORABLE. If I didn't have 9 kittens to find great homes for right now, I would come and pick him up in a heartbeat. What a luvy furbaby. I hope you find a loving home for him. What a kind soul you are :-) Tina

Indeed you did say that, but you said you "think" she was due, not that she was definitely due, so I didn't know you were an expert and I made that suggestion. My apologies. I would still get her to a vet to get her cared for before she has the kittens, the vet might have options for the cat and her kittens once they are born. And at least you will know what kind of shape she is in physically when you find a home for her, there will be no surprises for the new family. They would need to know if she is FIV positive or has heartworms or other possible problems. It will be easier to find homes for guaranteed healthy kittens than ones you aren't sure about.
