I've lived in Houston for over 20 years and just discovered a radio show that's been on for 16 years, called Your Livable Garden. It's on every Saturday from 6-8 am on KSEV-AM700, www.livablegarden.com. And they have just launched a facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Your-Livable-Garden-Radio-Program/182406596567?ref=ts

They talk about outdoor grilling, patios, pools, courtyards, kids in the garden, the latest in plants, problems in the area, landscape design challenges, etc. It's a very entertaining show and I figured if I didn't know about it, there might be a few others in the same boat!!! It's kinda like listening to Southern Living Magazine on a radio show.

I don't think telling fellow gardeners about a radio show that addresses gardening in the Houston area is spam. I thought it was refreshing to find a show that wasn't trying to sell me something every 2 minutes like other area gardening shows...I can actually learn something. I'm adding their website, decide for yourself.

I asked him to correct it. As we discovered, a lot of people at the show didn't know how to pronounce it properly, so it was educational in that respect. http://www.gregorycase.com/2007sffgs/Bromeliad/index.html The display is no more, Lisa. I listen to Bob Tanem In The Garden on Sunday mornings 7AM-10AM. You can find him on KSFO 560 AM, and there are archives/podcast available to download. He is a longtime Marin County nurseryman and lecturer, and has a wonderful infectious laugh and friendly manner. He offers advice that steers people away from using toxic chemicals in their garden, and instead explains how to use low toxicity soap/oil sprays, beneficial insects, etc to get rid of diseases and pests. I like the fact that he takes the approach of using less harmful methods first, then resorts to stronger chemicals when absolutely necessary, and talks about how to use them responsibly. Most of us gardeners want to minimize chemical usage, but when there are times when you need to get serious with a problem, it is nice to have a person well educated in both natural and the "unnatural" products steer you in the right direction.

We've been so busy with the show and DJ-ing live that I have not visited very often. I'm not Vikki or Suzy. Suzy left the show in search of the good life, and we aren't listed on the webpage (which hasn't been updated in a few years, but we've asked for it to be done). I'm been busy compiling a list of sings for spring so that I can do a series of Flower Power Hour segments with all sorts of songs about spring, gardening etc....

Sorry if I seem cynical, but I find it strangely curious that someone who has "just discovered" a radio show called 'Your Livable Garden' would have readily at hand their facebook and web addresses, and use the show's name as their GW username. It would also appear that you have "just discovered" Garden Web as well, since you first registered here yesterday.

Oh well, if it was spam I still wish them well on their radio show and in their gardening business ventures. Lord knows it's hard to make a living in the nursery business now days.

Yeah Jolana, I also wonder why slipping in advertising is called 'spamming'?

BTW, you are not alone in having a taste for Spam -- the lady that handles the food boxes the church gives out says that Spam is a big favorite of the kids. LOL!

Oh geez. I was excited about this post, until you busted 'em. I listen to a lot of podcasts while I drive, and I'm always on the lookout for a new garden podcast to try out. Garden podcasts tend to be so localized due to weather and plants.

Does anyone have a gardening podcast you like? At the moment I am addicted to Gardener's Question Time by the BBC. Its free and you can get it on iTunes. Despite the difference in climates between Britain and Texas, I hear about plants that we have here, and plants we could have here.

Last week's episode discussed the Lenten rose for dry, shady areas of a flower border. I had several of those when I lived in Richardson, and I'm now on the lookout for them in Austin. Or maybe I'll just buy more the next time I'm in the DFW metroplex!

At any rate, if anyone has any garden podcasts you like, I'd love to hear about it!
