I know it was crazy. Yesterday I expected it to get up to 45 so I waited until I got home to move some of the containers in. One of the larger above the dirt roots on my papaya is all black and shrivled by time I got home to move them in. We were not to freezing here, the snow didn't stick. I saw lots on the way to Baytown this morning though :)

My husband came home last night at midnight from Houston and told me it was snowing there and would be here any minute...sure enough; it began to snow! My son got out of bed and I ran out to cover some of my plants in the front.

This morning, I counldn't believe the amount of snow on the ground...at least 3 inches. My son has never seen so much snow...he made a snow angel and started a snowman but he had to get ready for school;so after breakfast, I finished it.
It was so much fun!!!

The high was 78 right before this cold front. It will be in the 70's again by Saturday.

Not all of us here in North Texas had sleet, PJ, or snow, for that matter (for which I am very grateful - don't like to slush through snow to feed the donkeys), but we did get rain ---- whoohoo!!!!

In my neighborhood, we had snow on our roofs until about 10 AM. When I went out to my car this morning, there was about a two inch blanket on top of it!

Unfortunately it appears I was right about my squash and tomatoes. Strangely, some of my bean plants look OK. My snow pea plants really lived up to their names, too.

We also got some snow here in Angleton. Not too much but the kids loved it. All the neighbors came out to take pics. I had noticed the insects were acting weird. So I new something was comming. I had gloves, caps, coats, and scarves ready for us. The weatherman said we may get more next week!

Hopefully it sticks for me! Its actually been mild for a very long time. I remember when I was little several winters with temperatures in the teens and actually one when it went down to 5!

4" on the island. It had almost all melted by 0600. There were still some spots here and there.
Since the weathermen/women were so accurate again in their forecasting we didn't expect either snow nor such cold weather so nothing was brought in. After working until 9pm I wasn't about to go out in the snow and sleet to try and find plants to bring in. Not to mention it's still a bit dangerous in the yard with the fallen tree and the mess that still exists. So once I bring myself to go look I'm sure there are a lot of dead plants.

I think I'm going to just give up gardening. Ike,falling trees, no water, full sun, snow, freezing and now that AT&T has pretty much killed everything left in the front yard.... there is a hole about 10' long, 6' deep and 8-9' wide, it goes from the curb to the fenceline, I think they are trying to tunnel under the fence. They actually dug up a few plants, without digging up their roots, but mostly they just dug them up and buried them under all that muck. Their plan is just to push everything back into the hole. That will leave a totally disgusting muddy mess instead of flowers, a path, the sidewalk...... It was so sad I almost started crying. The only rose that survived was butchered and then thrown on top of the plants they didn't dig up. They threw all the stuff they dug into the middle of the beds, then they stomped through those. What a mess. I plan to yell at AT&T daily for the next few weeks.

AT&T is the worst of the list! Actually we were told when we got this house not to plant anything on the 8' at the back of the fence. This is the "utilities easement" they can do what ever they want there. I've got 20gal container blueberries sitting there that can be moved around as needed.

I have an easment too. It is almost the entire area of the backyard in some places! Gimme a break! PJ

Pretty nippy here in Cypress again this morning. Husband hasn't wired up the weather computer yet, so I'm not sure how cold, but the north wind is invigorating to say the least. Think I'll stay inside today!

I'll have plenty of space when/if I get the 5 acres + earth sheltered home I'm making plans for :) Even though its so hot here 99% of the time I question my tropicals for this zone. The bananas and papaya I had in the ground (I put the containers inside) look kinda sick after the snow. I had the bottom parts covered so hopefully its just leaf damage and it grows back. The apple trees (anna/dorsett) and blueberries (tifblue) nneed the 30-45F weather to meet chilling requirements. Its nice to not have to worry about them :)

I don't even HAVE AT&T! They built the new box so it sticks out in the alley & my two old lady neighbors can't get to their garages, AT&T's answer? "Well, it looks like they put it as close to the fence as they could." AND! "Maybe they could drive another way" This is an l-shaped dead end alley. There is NO other way! He then told me they weren't done, the mud looked like it would dry quickly, they "often leave it better than when we started" but yet, he couldn't tell me what they would do to the uneven surface, the torn up driveway, the torn up alley, the mud pit. They broke the water main again, I think that was the fourth time in 2 days, the neighbors driveway is starting to collapse. He was right about one thing, they've been there daily except Sunday, 4 trucks in front of the house, 1 in the alley blocking it, one blocking the alley across the street and 2 blocking the street. Oh! did you need to get by?? And then they tried to climb the fence into the yard! This bunch is not digging anything yet they managed to break the water main twice! On top of the 4 times the original group broke it, and the city came to repair their OTHER leak and now there is a big hole in the neighbors collapsing driveway.

I've given up gardening and bathing for the winter. I'm just going to stand really, really close to the AT&T crews and watch their eyes water.
