Mallards are considered waterfowl as well and I feed mine cracked corn and grain ( wild bird starter). Also give them nuts and dried berries wild bird food which they love. If you mow your grass, you can give them fresh grass clippings and catch bugs for them that the mower stirs up-beetles,grasshoppers etc. I give them dead bugs from the pool and in the skimmer.I have also visited the bait store to get them worms and crickets. They go crazy over them!! Shoveling up leaves from under our bushes is good so they can forage under the leaves for bugs and worms.We are having to keep them penned until they feather out due to a hawk taking five of them so I am trying to make their dining experience enjoyable while they are temporarily cooped up. Lovely plant. Almost looks like a Purple Maui (at least the leaves, stem and flowers do). The fruit on my purple maui start off purple, and some stay purple (havent let them ripen before I've been picking them) whereas some start off green, go purplish, then ripen red. Flowers are all purple - no white. Also, the pods to the purple maui are a little longer.

here anyway the red wings build a nest close to the ground usually where there are many upright stems close to water. they weave between stems a large nest of fibers grass stems and soft bark and leaves and even strips of bark and then line the nest with dry grass. the males get very defensive when the female is nesting and will attack almost anything or anybody who gets close to the nest. here most of the females raise two broods from early spring to late spring the males after nesting season flock together and leave mid summer to fall for warmer climates. the females stay with the young ones till they can fly and take care of them selves.

Starling. Probably one of the most common birds in the US.
