there are lots of older posts on here about baffles for squirrels or racoons or other critters,
Basically don't hang the feeder in a tree or on a fence or anyplace close to a tree or fence ect. that the critters can climb and jump to the feeders.
If you have the feeders on a pole in the yard you can make a baffle out of stove pipe or flashing that is slick that they can't climb. If you would rather get a ready made baffle just use google or bing and find out where you can find one near you. Usually a pet store or and internet site that sells them.
A homemade one that works great for me is i got a sack of ready mix cement and and old plastic bucket and put a 5 foot lenght of 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe in it painted the bucket green and moved it several times till i decided where i wanted to leave it. On top of the 5 foot pipe i put a "t" fitting so i could put two short arms horizontal and drilled holes in the arms to hang a feeder on one side and a suet feeder on the other side. I have not had anything climb the slick pvc pipe. But others said to spray the pipe with pam and that makes it even slicker.

My DIL hung several feeders close to my back windows so that I could watch them from the inside. They hang by a small chain. The trouble is that there is a ledge that runs along under the back windows. Somehow they are getting on there and just helping themselves while sitting down enjoying the view. I think maybe they are jumping over from my deck. Got to think about this one, because I really do enjoying watching the birds from that view. I didn't think that raccoons would be interested in the finch food, but they surely are. - Barb

my sister was keeping a sack of bird seed in her garage.
she forgot to close the door after work one evening and the next morning there were a family of raccoons in the garage feasting on the bird seed, she chased them off and closed the door and left for work. that evening when she got home and opened the garage to park there was a young raccoon hiding in the bird seed sack that she had missed
seeing that morning.

Don't feed more than the birds can eat, so there is no leftover seed at night.

I have used several techniques to successfully foil the raccoons. I have a suet log and 2 small feeders mounted on poles with squirrel/raccoon baffles. They are stove-pipe style baffles that hang on the poles, originally purchased from Wild birds. They are 2 feet long, have lasted 4 years now, and work great. They prevent squirrels, raccoons, chipmunks, etc. from reaching the feeders. Once in awhile I go out and the pole with the BOSS feeders is kind of listing to the side a little, and I figure a raccoon probably tried to climb up and get past the baffle the night before, but no luck ha ha!

I also hang a suet cage with raw suet on a big Oak tree, and use a screw hook attached to the tree. The raccoons have scraped out a little suet from time to time but they are unable to remove the cage from the tree.

Also, I had Bluebirds nesting in a dead Pine snag in the back yard, and unfortunately a raccoon raided their 4th nest. In that case, I purchased sheet metal flashing and circled it around the trunk of the tree with wire. This is an effective way to prevent any climbing critters from getting up a tree, like racoons, squirrels or rats, as long as they don't have access to the tree from the side.

I have caught raccoons stealing food from my bird feeders also, but they will be moved this winter so they can't do that anymore. I have also seen them standing on the deck rail and tipping the hummingbird feeder so they can drink the nectar!
