please help w/ id

Hi! I saw this bird in my yard today and snapped a quick picture..sorry for the quality of the photo...hopefully it shows enough to help with identification. I haven't ever seen this kind of bird in my yard before and am quite curious as to what it is. I didn't get good look at the head but I believe it was all black, as well as the wings. There were white patches on the wings and the chest was white. The sides of the bird were a reddish-brown. I'm sure it's an easy id for someone, but I"m still new at id'ing.

I forgot to give my location...I am in South Central Pennsylvania. The bird was approximately the size of a robin, perhaps a little smaller. Is it an Eastern Towhee?

I think it must be from last year. I don't remember it from this spring's stuff, but I could be wrong. Bonus is the hummers are all over it like a ("body-image challenged" kid on a smartie..oops..Canadianism..I mean M&M)! ;0)

Thanks floota, I love your real MM - I have always dis-liked this one. It came from the grower mis-tagged. Image my surprise (horror) when this color showed up in my peachy-orangy bed. Please Help w/ Geranium ID

It is what's known as a rosebud geranium. There is a variety known as 'Appleblossom' that has coloring like that as well as an ivy geranium form (Pelargonium peltatum), 'Roco. The leaves would determine the difference :-)

You can also ID by call.....they say Toe HEEEEEEE! Usually hopping & scratching under trees. I beieve "mine" here in W. Michigan have left. I was luckey enough to spot 2 babies this fall!

I get the western Tohee that is spotted only after the snow starts falling. And they leave in late winter or very early spring. They do a noticeble kick start when they scratch. And eat mostly on the ground but do eat on the stumps also.
