Hey everyone, there are actually 2 very very simular looking caterpillars and they both feed on Hackberry..: the first one is the TAWNY EMPEROR caterpillar: it is mostly green and has 2 wide yellow stripes on its uppersides and straight yellow bands on its lower sides.The adult has a wingspan of about 2.5 inches. the second one is the HACKBERRY BUTTERFLY caterpillar:it looks very much like the first one mentioned,but this one has yellowish V-markings along the sides,the narrow bands on upper sides are more narrow.The knobs on the head are usually longer than the ones from the Tawny Emperor. This Butterfly is with his 2 inches wingspan a lil smaller than the T.E. and also the colors are a lil lighter. The Hackberry Butterfly is more common.. Thanks for the info, Ill. I'll be looking for some cowpea seeds and that red thingie that I've already forgotten the name of. And I'll definitely have a donkey's ears for you. Your July was rainy, eh? I don't think we got one single drop the entire month of July. I could see it raining to the northwest (probably at YOUR house) but nothing hit here until the first week in August. And then very little. I think it only rained maybe 4 times in August! We had one fairly heavy shower about a week ago that lasted about an hour, and that's the most rain I've seen in my yard since last spring! Arrrgggghhh. Marcia

Hi All, Not much going one here, just work, cleaning, etc. boring stuff. It will be exciting this week though. I'm going to a beer tasting/education on Tues. I have a web site meeting on Thurs. On Friday I'm going to Gardenscape which is the Rochester garden show I attend every year. It is a really nice one! I will also be working it too for the Rock Garden Society. Dottie, Congrats on the grandson! Lol, about getting over excited about the sprouts. Lettuce, broccoli family plants, and violas are very tough and can handle light freezes when they are babies. So you can take the lids off, but if it is going to dip really low like you said, you will need to re-cap them. Marie, I'm glad to hear of the good news!! Do we all have the wrong address now? lol. I got my box today, thank you Tina. I actually have been so busy I totally forgot I was even suppose to be getting a box, so it was a very nice surprise:) I got a pretty windchime:) a begoinia (something I always intend to get and never do!) a weigela bush (so pretty, and it is a different kind from the one I have, how cool!) and then lots of seeds,M.G brighteyed girl, Salvia, Bee Balm, Hummer and butterfly mix, Zinnias, pinwheel mix, Rose Pinwheel and giant flowered. thank you so much, you really brightned my day:) micke Thank you all for having me in the group, I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed getting to know you all, I will miss you.
