Nice. A free neomarica caerulea. Your iris will make new irises is you let the flowers touch the soil. They are called 'walking irises' or 'apostle plant' sometimes. The flowers get heavy and fall to the ground, then they send out roots. Once they are established, you can cut the rooted plant off of the parent and you have a perfect copy. Renee

Jim, look at those lovely back legs, which are perfectly suited to jumping. That should be your primary visual clue to the identity of this little thing. ;-) If you google katydid nymph, you'll see lots of images that match this one. dicot, katydids are rarely present in enough numbers to do much damage (they chew the foliage). They are also a favorite food for such predators as spiders, mantids, dragonflies, assassin bugs, birds, lizards, etc. I'd leave it....looks like somebodies lunch, to me. melo7me - Euonymous fortunei will creep over the ground but if it comes across something like a tree trunk or fence it will climb, just as English ivy does. The id is not a guess, it is definite. It is unlikely to thrive as a house plant. The term doesn't simply mean a plant that is brought indoors. It is specifically used to denote plants which can actually thrive indoors. Those that can are usually from low light situations in warm climates which echo the conditions inside a home. E fortunei is not one of those. Note that your friend had this in their yard, not in their house. Euonymous fortunei
