There are two types of the "Toon" tree: a) edible chinese toon and b) the wild toon which tastes really bad. These two look exactly alike. It is very rare to find the edible chinese toon here in the US. To tell if your tree is the edible type, let someone who tasted the edible chinese toon before chew on the leaf (do not swallow). This is the only way I know to tell the difference. Smell doesn't work. Good luck to you if your tree is the edible type. It's very hard to grow it from either seed or plant.

This plant called 'Nine Miles Fragrance' in China. It grows all over at northern part of Taiwan. In Taiwan, the flower clusters bloom prolifically. However in my cooler home, it blooms sparsely. The clusters were observed to be held over next year to bloom. It can set seeds in Taiwan and the seed-droppings would develop many seedlings under the mother bush.

It sounds like Cha Plu Piper sarmentosum. I've been growing it in my greenhouse, and it is doing great. In fact, I've taken a bunch of cuttings for an upcoming Master Gardener plant sale. If you check out the site I provided, it will tell you how to use it in cooking.

Oh my! Enough fertility symbols that I got preggers just looking at the pictures :) Here's a link to the immortals, with pics: http://www.asianartmall.com/8immortalsarticle.htm And Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_Immortals That is a FABULOUS bed. My guess is that it was used by a merchant family, one well off but not filthy rich (the really wealthy marriage beds have carved jade panels, and are far more elaborate), or a low-level official. Not all the immortals are suitable for marital inspiration - I think many of the figures are of female attendants. Here is a link that might be useful: Immortals
