thank god someone else did this!!! I bought several plant roots, not just ferns, and of them only two christmas ferns even emerged, and then they died from fungus or something. i didn't know there was a wildcrafting issue. is this a problem with plants in general? i ask because i survive off of about 10k a yr for three people, so i buy cheap plants. i'm sure you can appreciate my situation. but i don't like supporting most evil conglomerants, let alone some that present an ecological or biodiversity problem. anyhow, i thought i was just a bad plant parent, and i felt really guilty. i love plants a little too much:) other than that and a few houseplants on clearance, i only buy mail-order seeds anyway, i hope that's not evil too. (and i'm getting an environmental studies degree, you'd think i would've heard this before)

Thanks for the follow up. That's good to hear. I have read where they taste different by different locations. I have never tasted a home grown asian pear but the store bought ones are amazing. Have you ever had any problems with fire blight or any other diease?

I love this Hosta. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I think it is worth the extra effort when it is mature. Steve you have linked that picture before, and I have been inspired ever since. :) I got mine last year, so this will be its first full year with me. Being the newbie that I am, I ended up potting it in way too big of a pot with half top soil and half potting mix . . . it grew fine in high shade. Go figure. :\ Here he is last year, before I buried him in top soil. This year I tipped it out of the pot as the pips were beginning to emerge and washed all the old soil off. I then slipped it into a more comfortable 2 gallon with real potting soil. It looks stronger than it did last year, so I canâÂÂt help but think I am doing something right. I have to agree with everyone though, you need to be patient with this one and maybe pay a little extra care. I think I might end up leaving mine in a pot permanently. When plants live in pots you have a lot more control over what is happening to them. They are also a lot more work than those in the ground. I suggest you to buy at least a 600w metal halide kit with a bulb of the color spectrum of 6500k for you trees and when the trees will begin to bloom you'll need a hps conversion bulb or just a normal hps if it is a swithtable ballast to help bloom and fruit formation.If you don't want your electric bill go up I suggest you to buy a 90w UFO led lights for each tree.The las option is fluorescents bulbs ,but these are weaker in terms of liight power and you'll need a lot of these for your trees ,so these are my suggestion. P.S.I have a mallika mango tree in a pot under a 400w mh 12 hours per day and he's doing wonderful.
