Help with landscaping ideas (Woodlands, TX)

This may end up being a long message... your patience is appreciated :-)

We live in Woodlands, TX and we just had a pool put in. We're now looking at landscaping. Our overall plan is to go with low maintenance and try something in keeping with our wooded neighborhood.

To start with we have an area with 3 pairs of original trees (each pair is a pine and an oak) about 10 or 12 feet apart (forming a triangle with 2 trees at each corner). It is currently grassed but we're thinking of removing the grass and planting with some shrubs such as beautyberry, dwarf wax mrytle etc... does that sound doable? They'll get morning sun and then dappled afternoon sun.

Across the back of the pool we have a 14 foot deep by 50 foot strip. We were thinking of a flowerbed on the middle back of the pool, a strip of grass (effectively a path) behind the pool and that new bed. That would leave a couple of 10 foot semi circle (ish) beds beyond the path that we'd like to plant with shrubs and bushes.

We've been looking for ideas on what to plant - we prefer natives and plants that are similar...

Any ideas? Links for helpful sites? Plant suggestions?

One last thing - we definitely want beautyberry somewhere - where do you buy that stuff? We haven't seen it anywhere!

Thanks!
