Hiked in to camp

We finally got to spend a good chunck of time at our camp. We drove part way down and then hiked over to our spot. Carried everything we needed for pampered primitave camping on our backs and only made 2 trips. We needed the exercise.

I don't know how many people like to camp like us but I could have stayed there forever. The major problem was running out of water.

megdagooch, sounds like great camping to us! Love the monster 2-room tent. I bet that was fun to pack in! : )
Great pictures - looks like home except for the hill country. Is that a kitchen box I spotted behind the tree? I suspect you had a little too much fun - I recommend a return visit next year. Is there room for a dozen or two more? The forum awaits your response!

O.K. I fibbed a little. We had to pack the tent in by itself the day before. This camp was a bit more than we usually do. Our tent is still up for future trips. We did have an air mattress too. We brought alot of stuff just to leave there for future trips. Sometimes we go in for a hike and wish we had the provisions to stay the night, so we are leaving some stuff at camp. Our kitchen box is something left over from my husband's garage. We store all our pots and pans and utencils there. We have a tupperware box in the tent wiith more gear.
Would love to have some like minded campers join us, as long as you don't mind a wild little woods monster(my 4 yr.old)swinging from vines!
Doing some camper (gasp!) camping the next 2 weeks, but hope to get back to camp for some fall hikes and possible camping. My luxury items for next trip will be an electric blanket and portable power box-shame on me!

A big thank you to everyone who responded to my post. Your words mean so much. I feel as though I know many of you here and that makes it very special to me. You will probably not believe it but I lost another brother March 28th. He was ill most of his life and cancer took him among other health problems. You do not have to respond as I know all of you are thinking of me and that is what counts. It has really been a tough year for me and my family! Goodness, I am so ready to go camping! Going to try for the first weekend in June. Thanks again for your words. Jo

There's a campground in Mt Rainier Natl Park that is open all year, IF you can make it across the road! I went there last March and it was snowing, but I got creeped out thinking of bears waking up from hibernation and Michael Myers type people. It was really hard to keep warm, I didn't bring enough firewood. This time, I'm going to this campground around later November, like Thanksgiving, and will be better prepared. I'm sure the bears will be off to their hibernation dens.

On a recent camping trip, the RV a few spots down had a big screen TV mounted to the outside of his RV. The light pollution from it was incredibly annoying. I hear ya. I've been dismayed on more than one camping outing when, having selected the perfect campsite for our tents and setting up, along comes a ginormous "house on wheels" and parks right next door, generator cranking away all night long and destroying the peaceful vibe. Tent campers can be pretty opinionated and snobby when it comes to how RVers are viewed (and vice versa, I've discovered). My folks recently bought an Airstream and are loving it. Dad always loved tent camping, but now that he's older he does enjoy the creature comforts. My mom certainly wants to be comfortable and never enjoyed sleeping in a tent. I can understand why one might want a travel trailer, but I personally can't see the appeal of going anywhere in one of those RV buses that's absolutely huge. They look like they'd be nerve-wracking to drive, to say the least, and most of them I see are towing a car as well. I'd rather just stay in a very nice hotel, and no doubt come out money ahead. BUT - to each her own. There's really no "wrong way" to get out there and experience this country.
