Air Mattress

I'm currently looking into buying a double high queen sized air mattress to bring with me camping. I'd like it to have an internal pump in it and be able to be plugged into a car power inverter. I however worry about the inverter not having enough watts to handle the pump. Does anyone have any recommendations for how they blow up double high air mattresses or a suggestion for a air mattress and power inverter? Thanks!

I also use an air mattress when "car" camping. I use a small pump powered by 4 'D' cell batteries. It takes just a few minutes and I can be a ways from the vehicle when I use it. It came with the mattress I bought but I'm sure you can find one at a hardware or camping supply store. Try Campmor. I also pack a roll of Gorilla Tape just in case it springs a leak.

I have an Eddie Bauer that has a built in pump that works on 4 D batteries. It only taqke 2 minutes to inflate. Then you turn the pump around and it deflates it perfectly in about 1 minute. It is AWESOME. Best air mattress for pretty cheap too.

Friends don't let friends buy air mattresses (or cots). Unless you plan on doing all you camping only during summer, think again. There's a good reason both the US military and the Boy Scouts only use sleeping pads, rather than cots or air mattresses. Those two are only for use inside heated enclosures. Besides losing good sleep because your body is giving up calories to the heat-sink effects of the air mattress or cot, you risk catching hypothermia (most cases of hypothermia occur at between 30 and 50-degrees F). The hollow tubes of an air mattress and the empty space underneath cots work constantly to achieve equilibrium with the colder air around them, meaning you are constantly having your warmth drained away. Buy a ThermaRest self-inflating sleeping pad or one of the knockoffs made by REI or Slumberjack or one of the others. They are sold in many designs, widths, lengths and thicknesses and the ThermaRest brand carries a lifetime guarantee.

Aww, just take along some old heavy blankets and a good sleeping bag, and a nice pillow--drink 2 beers, or a hot toddy, go to bed and you'll sleep all night. No worry about the air mattress deflating on ya! Fold the blankets to make a pad under the bag. Heck, if ya need an air mattress to keep ya comfy, then go rent a room in a motel, and stay there! I've slept on the ground all over the world. The camping in France was a bit dangerous, but i survived it. The camping here in the states was a lot safer, but we survived that too!

We have the EA Arcata sofa and I regret the purchase every day. We got all the most expensive cushion upgrades/options, and frankly, I don't think the sofa looks much better than the darn IKEA EKTORP we had when we were first married. Admittedly, my husband sprawls on it, but the cushions always look terrible. And they slide out of place very easily. I'm always having to fluff, turn, and stuff them back under the back cushions. This is our second "grown-up" sofa purchase in ::cough:: five years. And I'm anticipating having to make another very soon. Granted, these aren't the most expensive sofas ever ($1800-2k range) but...it's disappointing. We had one sofa during my entire childhood. One. And when my mother was finally tired of it, it lived in a cousin's house for eight more years. I'm not asking for 25 years, but 25 MONTHS isn't too much to ask, is it? So, I would shy away from an EA sofa where I could not flip and fluff the cushions.

Bpathome, the rods separate from the middle (because they are expandable) so I slip off the curtains and neatly fold them, and store them with my linens and lay the rods along the drawer edge when they are not in use. I have a handheld laundry steamer, so when I want to pop them back on, I just give them a quick steam to look neatly pressed. The only sign of them when not in use, is a small (postage stamp size) magnet square that I permanently adhered to the doors top corners (because my doors are not metal). But I painted them white and they lay almost flush to the door (less than 1/8 thick) so they really do just blend right into the door.

I don't bother with an air mattress. I take one or two of those glider cushions along and just flop them out in the tent! No worry about an air mattress going flat 2 hours after you climb in to bed! Which seems to be the norm with them. I've used them in truck caps, too.
And, they are cheap! Just drive around on trash night-you will probably find some that way. And, when you strike camp to leave, you won't find yer battery dead from the pump running all night.
Also, i don't call two air mattresses, stacked one on top of the other---"camping"! Gee, if ya want a bed to be that comfy--stay home, and camp in yer bedroom! And, ya won't be looking for a way to cook, or where the potty is! Won't have to mess with lighting, batteries, etc.
