What is this tiny bird?

Occasionally, not every day, about sunset when it's getting cool, a flock of tiny birds (not hummers) comes and the little birds flit from bush to bush and fly away in a group in a minute or two. I live in San Diego county, southern California, about 18 miles from the beaches. They have really pretty voices. They're brown but may have some gray or black. I only see them through a window. I've never seen them in high trees, only in bushes near the house. What are they and how can I attract them? I wish they'd come every day !

Sounds like Bushtits. They eat mostly insects & spiders.

Hey everyone I was just wondering if you could spare a minute to fill out a quick survey on bird watching. nanatricia, the one I want is a silicone slit mold. do you think it will work for concrete? It is expensive, but when you figure I would have to pay $8 to $12 each for a little concrete bird, then I would get my money's worth in 3 or 4 castings. The seller has 10 of them on Ebay. I almost posted an observation along these lines several weeks ago. In a one-week span I noticed three separate cowbird chicks all being attended to by blue-grey gnatcatchers. There was always a single cb chick to each set of birds, and never any sign of additional BGGC chicks vying for the food. In that same time span I also noticed a CBchick being fed by a pair of indigo buntings. It's not hard to find them as they are very raucous and conspicuous. I am curious how the numbers and densities of birds most typically affected by CB predations are doing here because we have hordes of cowbirds, yet I always hear/see vireos and thrushes and others that are prime targets for parasitism. I check my nest boxes regularly and destroy any CB eggs in the hopes that at least my small wooded acreage can better sustain songbirds in a time of decline, but we live in farmland with any remaining wooded areas being highly fragmented. Flocks of winter 'blackbirds' are usually groupings of redwings, starlings, grackles and cowbirds fattened up on a steady and readily available farmland diet. I only wonder what our songbird demographics will do in the next few decades.

Should I assume this is a bird nest and if so, what bird?

I'm going to take a shot at my own question after just now finding a similar post from 7 years ago... also in a propane tank, same kind of materials. Consensus was Carolina wrens -- which I love, and which have been around a great deal. Do others agree? Carolina wrens?

Thanks, Oldned ! I'll bet that's the one. The website says that they eat bugs and spiders so setting up a feeder won't attract them. But I'll sure enjoy them when they do show up. Really appreciate the I.D.
