Do wrens easily leave eggs behind?

I can't remember if these were house or carolina wrens. Twice now, They've laid eggs in different nests, and then never came back. I scared one accidentally last week, as I was entering my chicken coop. (It had built a nest in a large cottage cheese container that was on its side, on the top of a deck box).
Surely one time wouldn't have scared it away.
The other time, the nest was on my porch in a basket and it had 3-4 eggs in it, and they never returned.

I know the males tend to build several nests and the female then decides which one.........but I never knew they deserted eggs so easily.

Anyone else have this experience?
