Best decorated tree

I found a perfectly decorated tree this morning. The Bluebirds were all there waiting for me to fill the mealworm feeder. You can't see them all, but I got a count of 10. Last year my Bluebird flock only had five birds, so this is great. I can't believe I'm so lucky to have them way up here in Massachusetts.

Well, I am sooooooo jealous! Don't know that I've ever seen that many blues at one time. Great pic and thanks for sharing.

Thanks Donna! I had never even seen an Eastern Bluebird, much less a winter flock in the first 50 years of my life. So this is really cool for me. Keeping up with feeding 10 of them will be a challenge. I have 8 bins of mealworms in various stages, but most too small to feed out yet. I've ordered more. Thankfully they will eat the suet crumbles too. Plus I got a heated bird bath for Christmas, so that will help a great deal. Last year when they came, I had to keep defrosting the water bowl and refilling it with warm water.

Hi bonechickchris, I agree with Mike's advice in the thread linked to below (last post). Now is a good time, if you can provide it a good home during the winter. It might be less risky in the spring though - removing the soil and shipping are stressful. It is easier to recover in the spring outside than in the winter inside. Here is a link that might be useful: Mike's advice

Tips for Decorating Your Christmas Tree

I think that tip #6 is especially interesting.... I've never heard that about overloading the tree bottom with ornaments on purpose. Then again, I'd bet that whoever suggested this tip does not have cats! :) Did I ever tell you about the time I made gingerbread men to decorate the tree? Every day I'd come home from work and find a cookie or two on the floor broken -- but I could never fine their heads! I eventually saw her do it: my cat would knock a cookie off the tree, eat the head, and leave the rest. :p So, is there a tip about WHERE TO PLACE A TREE within a room??? I have a 24' long LR, but it's narrow and one long wall has a large bank of windows across the middle, as well as a door. I've tried placing the tree in the far corner, but it seems so out-of-view. I've tried placing the tree on the opposite end, centered on the other short wall near the door, but it seems to be too "in your face", IYKWIM. I'm tempted to try placing it more in the center of the room -- near those windows -- but does it make sense to do that if the furniture has to be changed some to accommodate it???

Ah ha!! Gotcha : ) Here it is a bit smaller, and then a distant shot of the first, larger one. Now I'm thinking the larger one is fine and has more presence and definition. Maybe in between? I tried some of those curved iron accents I've seen at ending positions or posts (but can't remember the details, so it just shows the general look.) And, ya know, a piece of gray flagstone on top of those columns and even across the wall looks great and ties nicely with the roof and drive. I would think you could fit the moulding piece around the gutter area, hiding it. As a front cap sort of thing. It's a design problem to work out : ) Have to figure any water issues in. Do you have a closeup or drawing of the area, how the pieces and planes are currently fitting together? Should pull a distant shot of the larger size in also.

Unusual Christmas tree decorations....bottles anyone?

JavAchick, I did see those when researching this idea but not how they were hung. I thought maybe they were tucked in the branches somehow so thanks for the explanation. Oakie they are all quite small (the ones I'd use) and since the tree is fake (because I have to put it up so early) I think the branches will hold. Ollie...lol. I'd be tempted to recreate that tree in antique bottles if they were all the same size...just for the giggles. We have found a few wines sue heh heh they will reside in the wine cellar where they can share stories of the good old days with the new wines in storage. Much more fun for them than sitting in the dirt. I love the velvet cording idea. I'm trying to keep this tree simple because it was in the servants quarters (or is). I have cranberry garland and may make popcorn garland. I have oddness of hand make cotton lace from my husbands grandmother in the shape of bells etc that will go on it, and yes, dried flowers. I'd also like to make cinnamon ginger boys but need to figure out the recipe first. Very homespun in feel. I still need to finish fifty stockings....and deck out the entire house while entertaining on thanksgiving and having twenty people for the weekend before....I don't know why I feel time is running thin lol. I am seriously considering telling the wives of our guests that weekend that tree decoration is their focus instead of shopping heh heh.

catlady, yes I make my own suet. Last year my little flock stayed until breeding time, so hopefully this flock will stay around all winter. There are ten of them, and they just mob the mealworm feeder when I fill it. I don't know how to say no to them, so I am filling it three or four times a day. Thankfully I got another order of mealworms in today, so I won't run out. Funny, I get them in the winter, but come spring none have ever nested in my boxes.
