POST your Tomato Pictures for this 2008 season

Here's a few of the this years harvest I picked yesterday. This year I was 2 weeks late planting and the weather also delayed growth of the tomatoes. I threw the Anaheim and Ancho peppers for contrast/color scaling. The Cherokee Purples, Robesons and Jersey Devils are AWESOME... heck they're all great this year, just late.

Hi one eyed pony - Good looking tomatoes! ;)

But I'm curious. Do you find that using that type of tomato cages upside like in the picture works better?

Well I was up early so went ahead and opened my SS gifts. WOW thank you Plumbnelly! I got the most beautiful hand painted gourd, a snowman spoon ornament, a Christmas Tree cone, a magazine, and a bag of peach marbles. Here is the photo of my stuff below. As you can see in the background, my newest cat just had to get in the picture. I'm single and live alone with my 3 cats so couldn't include a photo of myself. I tried and tried to wrap their little paws around the camera to take my picture, but they just couldn't do it. LOL Thanks so much for all my beautiful things. I had a great time opening them all. I started most of my seeds Jan. 4. I transplanted this year on 2/24, two weeks earlier than last year. It's been pretty mild with only one light frost and a lot of 80's/60's days the last week or so. My first fruit is on my first container plant, which I thought was a Bloody Butcher, but since Bloody Butcher is a potato leaf variety, this is a mystery plant. The seeds were given to me so I won't complain and the plant is setting fruit nicely too. Most of my in-ground plants are putting out their first blooms. I'm growing 30 plants(many colors and sizes) this year, 6 of which are at a church garden. I live in the DFW area. Happy growing, Pete

Hi all, I'll get in on this action. I enjoyed the 2009 series a lot and told myself I'd join in if it started up again in 2010. 3/25/10, 12 days after planting: The lower of two sets of growing trays - mostly tomatoes. I raised the lights up to take the picture, so don't start yelling at me about how they're too far away. Shown here are: Anna Russian, Better Boy, Big Boy, Big Mama, Bobbie, Brandywine, Cowlick's Brandywine, and OTV Brandywine. All in all we are trying 22 varieties in all this year (assuming they all sprout, that is - still two holdouts). We are definitely looking forward to trying a bunch of new things as well as some old reliables. Happy Gardening everyone. - Chris

Rosarama, im in no way taking credit for this growing medium, I learned about it on this forum. Its strickly for containers for what I know about it. The man that came up with it to my knowledge is Al Tapla. 5 parts pine bark, ground up cut up or whatever is done to it till its the average size of a dime. 1 part coarse perlite 1 part peat 2 cups dolimite, 1 cup of pro max minors, 2 cups of slow release fertilizer I mix every thing in a 36 gal container, a little at a time. I believe its the best thing since sliced bread. Look up and study Als mix. If your serious about growing maters in containers you should learn about Als mix, it would save you a lot of heart ache, and make you much more successful in growing in containers. Thanx! Those cages were a gift, and are too small for indeterminate tomato plants. They are Ideal to use for PEPPER plants. The ANCHO pepper plants are now 3-4 ft & Anaheims are 2-3 ft with tons of heavy weighted peppers. Great pepper crop this year. I will be making my own tomato cages with the 6' SHEEP fence from Home Depot next year.

This is two harvests, 2 days apart from my 19 containers (no earth boxes yet).

Lots of cherry types, Supersweet 100, Sun Gold, Yellow Pear, Husky Red Cherry. Others are Siberian, Supertasty, Subarctic Plenty, Roma, Celebrity, Golden Jubilee, Cherokee Purple, Sunmaster, Talladega, and Heatwave

Clockwise from the bright yellow Golden Jubilee are: Subarctic Plenty, Celebrity, Sunmaster, another Sunmaster, Talladega, Super Tasty, Heatwave and Cherokee Purple in the center. It weighed 14.85 ozs.

WOW! I had dinner just a couple of hours ago but these photos make me hungry again, YUM! Love seeing all these photos, from the bountiful harvest spreads to the artistic photos. Everything looks so impressive!

Very nice all!

I'm a new sucker for those emerald green shoulders. On our CPs and Carbons, the taste is good even there. Not something I'm used to.

I don't have anything photo worthy right now. We've had gobs of rain and heat, so we have gobs of splitting. I hate picking them so green. The plants are having fun though and AGG is finally blushing.

A recent storm blew over a heavily laiden, containered, OTV and knocked several off. Several branches and trusses on some of the others have been badly kinked. Thought I had em tied up well enough ... Couldda been worse.

Clockwise from top left, four Momotaro, three Prudens Purple, three Goose Creek, some Peacevine Cherry, a couple of figs, some Martino's Roma, a bunch of Black Krim and some New Big Dwarf:

From this balcony garden:

Tomatoes around the perimeter and peppers in the interior. I also have a smaller balcony upstairs with the Black Krim, Momotaro and a few figs.

Finally -here they are!
This is after we have already made salsa, sauce, canned tomatoes anf given bunches away. I don't know which is which but I have Ark Tr. Little Pink, Rutger, Italian Mkt and Manulousia (SP?)
BTW, does anyone know why they crack?

My Sun Gold Cherries are finally starting to turn orange. I ate these two a few days after the photo was taken, and they were GREAT!

Try not to post two large pictures next to each other, so the page doesn't distort and pull out all the text horizontally. When you create a post, there is a preview page before final posting, so you can see how your creation will look like, and you can make changes to fix it, if you see mistakes like that.

Picked most of these today, a couple yesterday:

from 2 of my plants. not sure if that orange one is ripe yet...it's a fake "mr stripey" - "white" ones are snow white cherry...

This is the largest of the first two ripe Carbon tomatoes I have picked so far this summer. Not as black but at 22 oz., larger than I expected.
