Valencia Orange in Houston?(cross posted on Citrus)

I was wondering if anyone from the Houston area has successfully gotten orange production from a Valencia tree? We purchased because the bearing time (late spring, early summer) is different than other citrus. Now I am second guessing that choice due to occasional freezing weather here during the time fruit would be forming/maturing.
The rootstock is Carrizo, not trifoliate. However, I'm not worrying about the tree itself as much as the fruit forming/ripening, then being frozen.

If you have gotten oranges after having one of our cold snaps, any particular hints for protecting? Particularly as tree gets larger.

Thanks so much! Am new to citrus growing with the exception of Meyer lemon, which has been pretty much worry-free for years. (We are in the SpringBranch area, which is a bit north of I10, east of BW8 - for Houston residents!)
