Prothonotary Warbler, Great-crested Flycatcher, etc.

Yesterday it was actually sunny after weeks of storms so we went to Cave Run Lake. I heard a Prothonotary singing in the marsh and tried not to think of ticks as I waded into the grass to find him

The "Weeep!Weeep!" of Great-crested Flycatchers back in the woods attracted my attention

Several Warbling Vireos were singing loudly and I glimpsed three of them moving through the canopy. I almost had one in my sites, but lost track of it

so I looked around for the nest, which was only 15 feet from us. We quickly left so the parent could feed the chicks

I've been swimming laps most evening at a half-acre pay lake on the back of Poppy Mnt and two days ago we stopped near an Orchard Oriole's nest on the way back. I took photos in the dark only using the internal flash, but obviously I needed to use a brighter external one. However when we returned with an external flash last night, he wouldn't show.

With the weather finally clear we camped last night by the horse pasture, but this morning the trees prevented our seeing the moon/Mercury/Mars/Jupiter line-up, so we drove to the top of Poppy Mnt. By then the sky was already too bright so we just stayed to watch the sunrise

Later when I walked the dogs up Mabry Hill some wild turkeys crossed into the woods far ahead of us
