Thanks Konrad. It's just impractical for me to remove all that wood siding even though it is the best thing to do. But - this morning I declared war and went back to the store and bought another tube of caulk. With a long aluminum clothesline support pole, I put a glob of caulk on the end of it, climbed so far up the ladder, and dobbed that caulk in the crack below the piece of siding 14' up. It actually worked, and after I got the hang of it I was able to smooth the bead out a bit with the end of the pole. Then I stood below and watched if a bee could still get in, if it did, I dobbed more caulk until I got a pretty good bead along there. I continued to caulk anywhere the bees were going in or out below, too. I'll find out how well it works this evening when most of the bees return. I read on the internet that if you don't see pollen on the legs of the bees going in that maybe they aren't settled yet or feeding young; and they could be stray bees that smelled the old comb and are out to rob honey and take it back to their own hive. So far, I haven't seen any pollen sacs on the legs, so maybe I've lucked out.

You can get Wasp and Hornet killer in an aerosol spray at the supermarket or hardware store. right there along side of the Roach and Ant killer. just aim, spray and run as you are going to make them angry. It may take a couple of really good soakings to do the job. It won't hurt the bush. PB

Oh Konrad ,I just went throught this...you gotta shake the heck outta that egg then put it back in the nest. I would have lost all my Chipping Sparrow babies if they had not nested where I could monitor them. This baby grew 20 x faster than the chippers and was kicking the Chippers out of the nest.had I not interviened all the Chipper babies would have died and the Cow bird baby been the only child of the poor Chippers, they will raise it. Read my posts 911 pre fledging of Chippers snd so on..I am glad to say the 3 Chipper babies that jumped out of the nest prematurly have all fledged safely as did the Cow bird baby. (one thread "I cant believe my eyes") will tell the story. Please shake the heck outta that egg...you don't want it to hatch and you don't want the Cow Birds to come with their wrath on the babies that do hatch.

Well, the (possibly) bad news is that it isn't an asplenium. If you look at the stems and compare against asplenium pics, you'll see a totally different leaf shape. Probably someone jammed in a tag that was lying on a shelf without regard to what the plant actually was. The (hopefully) good news is that it looks like a peace lily (spathiphyllum), which are better at coming back from extreme heat than aspleniums. It sounds like you've done everything right so far. In fact, if you wanted to submerge the pot in a sink full of lukewarm water for an hour, that might accelerate its recovery. You'll probably lose some more leaves due to shock, but that's normal. Peace lilies are semi-aquatic and very difficult to over-water. You'll notice the leaves unfurl from the various stems in the general clump, rather than each new leaf growing out of the center of an asplenium's roseate. Avoid placing in direct sunlight. Leaves turn yellow with too much light. Don't fertilize for at least a few weeks -- that would be too much shock for the roots. Once it's healthy again, you can fertilize to make it bloom.
