Identifying nest... looks like BB nest but how to be sure?

Hi! I'm new to this forum... we have two bluebird boxes (on the edge of an open meadow, close to native woods) and have had bluebirds nest (plus a pair of tree swallows in one box last year). This year, I saw the bluebirds early (early March) but haven't seen much of them since. Both the houses have nests in them -- one entirely of twigs, the other seems to be grasses, some twigs and other stuff. No eggs in either yet (we are in northern CT). The past few days we have seen a small brown bird (haven't been able to positively ID -- wren I think, definitely not the female bluebird. Could be a house sparrow I suppose -- the bird is fairly dull brown, lighter chest, no really noticeable wing bars but I haven't gotten a really close look yet.

Today, the bluebird pair is in the maple tree, diving to the ground, chattering, etc. So the question is: how to know WHOSE nest is in the boxes? I don't want to disturb it if it's the bluebirds, but I should remove it if it belongs to a sparrow (right?) What about wrens? Remove it? Leave it and tough luck for the bluebirds? Will the bluebirds "reclaim" it if there are no eggs yet?

HELP! I want to do the right thing here... please advise. I can post photos of the nests if that would help.
