Tomato seed saving question

I thought about posting this to the seed saving forum, but since it's kind of a tomato-specific question, I think this forum might be better.

I have a gorgeous Cherokee Purple plant--big, bushy, highly productive and apparently disease resistant--so I really want to save some seeds from this plant. The early fruit were large beefsteaks and they have long since been consumed (delicious!!!). But perhaps due to an extended hot, dry spell, most of the fruit on the plant now are on the small side (3-4" diameter).

This may be a silly question, but am I selecting for small fruit by picking these tomatoes to save seed from? My thought is no, since tomato flowers are self-pollinating, the genetic makeup in a particular plant's seeds is the same in all of the fruit regardless of their size (assuming no cross-pollination from bees, etc).

I think this is right but I just wanted to check here to see if there are any differing opinions.

Thanks,

John
