This years count & missing Dad

My 2nd nesting of Blues left this morning. Total for the season: 9 Blues, 5 TRES, Dees did not take a box this year. Sadly we lost Pop Blue about a week ago. There must have been another male here right away because I never missed the male but noticed Mom runing a male away from the nest, then the male was sitting and singing on another box. I was hoping he was just getting "frisky" and she was running him off. This lasted a few days then he was gone (but can still be heard singing in the distance). No male showed up for fledge day so I know Pop is gone. I will miss my little window pecking guy.

My season is over (sob), it came and went so fast.

I know how you feel, Lisa. I love the singing and the nesting too, but am so enjoying Mother and four of her five babies all over my yard, making it their summer home.

My totals for the season are 10 EABL, 6 TRES. None of the Dees took any of my boxes this year either. It does go by so fast. It seems like it has just begun, and then it's over and we have to wait until next spring. I still see my Blues as they still come for mealworms, but I know that will also stop soon. At least yesterday I got to save a nest of baby Robins. I saw parents feeding on the ground, and noticed a broken nest nearby. The babies had pin feathers, and were not afraid of me at all. They just begged for food when I placed them into their nest, which should give some indication of age. I wired a basket to a tree above it, and carried that up a ladder and put the nest full of babies (4) into the basket. Then I waited to see if the parents would find them, and they did. They are still feeding them this morning, so I think all will work out fine. I know something could still get them, but they would surely have been food for a predator if I had left them on the ground.

Oh, (((Jill))) I am so sorry for your terrible loss. I just posted my story & noticed yours. Your grief is still so new...mine is 21 months old after losing my 27-year old son. These first few days, weeks & months (for me anyway) will be a foggy blur. You do things because they are automatic. I remember feeling SO angry when I had to take the first shower afterward. "WHY do I still need to bathe!?! EAT??? Why is everyone just going around like nothing has happened, don't they KNOW!?!" That numbness carried me through plus I had family here that I needed to cook for, watch grands, prepare for funeral, all of it. I remember finally falling into bed several nights later & finally just letting go on hubby's shoulder. We had to be strong for daughter-in-law, 3 grands & her family. You cannot be responsible for what other family members do or do not do. Just focus on what you need to do and don't let anyone or anything keep you from what you need to do. I remember listening to my son's cell phone message over & over just to hear his voice. That's normal & to be expected. Your tears will come & go. I remember when I laughed the first time, I felt guilty. We gathered at a close friend's house after the funeral and had a wonderful family & friend time together. We had to drive 300 miles to Anchorage from Valdez, Alaska so it was quite the challenge to arrange things from afar. Just take it one day at a time...every day will be different. Do you have any type of support group, church, minister or someone you can talk to? I think just coming here will be good for you. This is the first time I've been able to 'talk' to someone about what happened to us outside of our immediate family. Just keep talking to us...letting us know how you are doing. You should have your mother make a new will. Estate and prbate laws change all the time.The most important thing you need to do is have her signh powers of attorny, especially for health care You said your brother lives far away so you are going to be the care taker weather he likes it or not. You need the power to handle anything that may come up. I will never understand why most parent make THE son executor. Just because they wear pants dosan't mean thay can walk on water. I lost my mother just a year ago and one of the greatist gift my parent ever gave me is the power and the knowlage of thier affairs to handle everything without having to bother my father those first few monts after the funeral. All the trust papers were in my posission, all the powers in place, they even had pre paid funeral arrangements. It has been the hardest year I have ever had but because of their caring for me they made it easier to deal with. I also have a brother and a sister who are lurking in the wings waiting for the final estate battle. My father was so conserned about this that he recorded the visits with the attorny naming me as the final word, we made copys and sent then to brother and sister and they have been rather nice to me since. I guess what I want to get across to you is to get everythong on the table now befor you need it.One thing that really helped me during my mothers last few months was the authorization papers she signed with all the doctors, medacare, insurance company so I could make phone calls and talk to her doctors. With the new privacy laws you really need them. I have them for my father now and it makes my life easier. Is your brother going to be there to take care of you mother?? I lost my Dad to Cancer 11 months ago he would have been 67,Since he left I feel scared lost and so alone,it seems like no pain in the world could compare to the pain I go through when im alone in my room and suddenly I have these bursts of images of him in my head.We didnt have the greatest relationship I was always trying to prove myself and always seemed to fail He would create new opportunities for me and no matter how badly i fell flat on my Face he always seemed to say dont worry My boy we will try again.Though he never showed it i knew he wanted something special for me ........... Im so confused now because my patterns haven't changed and im a grown man still but I feel like a little boy lost and all alone and not knowing where to turn because his dad is gone and now facing the world without him is the scariest thought in the world.You know i have had relationship issues and problems in the past and even though he wasnt able to solve them He was my Dad and he was there for me and it comforting, because I was his son and now his gone I dont know where i belong :( my hearts so sore as im writing this the tears are streaming down my cheeks sometimes the pain is so much i feel in my chest ............ i am 37 years old and im a man but you know what I was Allans Son for me that stood for something special I was proud of my Dad though i never always told him We made peace before his quick passing He was so worried about me when he learnt he had cancer How selfless is that I guess in life sometimes our hardest lessons are being learned when The Living arent Here to say its ok My Boy dont worry we will try again

HI Patty...It is sad, and I guess the feelings just get less intense. My Mom didn't fully realize that my Father had died either. She was here, saw him, went to plan funeral and went to the funeral home and the service, but she was "blunted". Afterwards, the main thing was she constantly looked for him to come in or call. And thought he had left. That was the saddest part. With just the 2 of us here, it left me with no one to talk about his death with, and that was really sad. I think I understand your feelings. It leaves a big void in your life. I hope your Mom is doing OK. Know you are missing her too. It all adds up. Shalom, Derry

So sorry about your Daddy Blue Lisa! Congrats on the successful season, but are you sure it is over?? Maybe mom will hook up with that new male and start another nesting?? I have had second nestings started in July here in WI before.

My season isn't over yet! I have a Momma blue sitting on 5 eggs of her second nesting at the back of our property. My other totals so far are.....34 TRES fledged.....11 Blues fledged (from 3 different pairs) and 7 Dees fledged from a natural cavity that I was able to monitor. Five of those Blues just fledged yesterday from the box in our garden...waiting to see if they will go for a second nesting or not. Last year I had Blues fledge on July 3rd and they nested once more. Second nesting of the Blue pair at the park near us was ended due to a wren and I haven't seen mom or dad since.

Well now im not so sure. The male was here singing away and checking out the now empty nest box. There was also an "encounter" of wing waving and chattering. First I was happy then I worried she would not care for the babies that had left just an hour before. He got a bit friskey and she took him down to the ground but then they flew up to the tree together and chattered some more. She left to go tend to the babies and I have not seen her all afternoon. The male checks in now and then and sings on the box. They nested the earliest ever this year , a full 10 days earlier than usual SO.....maybe???????
