Who does what?

4-5 days ago, the male figured out the mealworm bowl. I have seen him grabbing beakfuls of worms and delivering them to the babies. The female is always present, and is always first to sound the alarm when I go outside. But I haven't seen her at the bowl yet. Am I just not seeing her feed the babies? Is this the father's job? Certainly she sees him at the bowl so I can't imagine she doesn't know what's there!

Just curious.

OH, and those babies are so lovely....8 days old now.

In my experience they both feed and both remove poop sacs but I would agree that I see the male doing more of both of those things than the female. Maybe she figures she went through the building, egg laying, incubation, brooding and it's now time for HIM to work a little harder! :D

I read that the male, feed mainly the female babies, because he doesn't know if the males will be a rival of his some day. On the other hand i do see them both feed the little ones.

I can't speak to the landscape part of the question, but as to the architects conference and the question, "should urban projects have an artist on staff?"... Not all architects do the same thing or have the same strengths. Some architects are "designers". Others are more detail-oriented, engineering-oriented; more practical. Frank Gehry is a designer. His staff worries about how to build what he designs. In that sense, Mr. Gehry is an artist. Different aspect: public buildings present better if they include public art. This can be sculpture, or, (I hesitate), landscape design. Not landscape design in the sense of paths, trees, borders; but landscape desing in the sense of the design of the Vietnam War Memorial, for example, or the gardens of the Getty Center. That 4-door Samsung looks cool! We had an Electrolux french door fridge with ice and water on the door, freezer drawer down. It was pretty excellent all round. The door on the right did have the flappy panel but you could still close either door first, and open either one independently of the other. Its hard to describe but the flappy panel goes into a guide that folds it in and around the other door so you are not prevented from opening or closing it on its own. The flappy panel is what allows the doors to have a tight seal in the middle. I thought all French door fridges were like this? This style is so common now that a quick trip to any store that has a few appliances will let you see what I mean. I can’t speak for anyone else except me in MI. These are the steps we take to install a tiled shower. -The plumber takes apart the plumbing in the old fiberglass shower. -The carpenter Demos the shower and cleans the area replacing any rot or damaged framing material. -The plumber sets the new valve and moves any plumbing if needed. At this point the carpenter may need to move framing to accommodate new plumbing. -The carpenter should add any blocking needed for grab bars, shower doors or other backing for fixtures getting mounted on the tile walls. -At this point the pan liner is installed. The plumbers, by code, are responsible for the pan/base but many just allow the tile installer to do this with the plumbers approval. -Here in MI the tile installer holds the responsibility for waterproofing of the shower. The tile installer typically installs the backer board (cement board or other rigid waterproofing system). Red guard is used if cement board was installed. -once tile is installed, grouted and sealed the plumber comes back to trim out the fixtures.

Maybe it's my imagination, but I think they all have different personalities, and even that may change from time to time. Sometimes one is more bold or shy, age or experience, or pecking order might affect what they do, or the time of year might change behaviors. And they learn from one another, including parenting skills. Some will divebomb you like maniacs, and others will sit nearby and watch patiently as you monitor their nestbox. Or the same bird might get more aggressive as their young get close to fledging. And when they change partners, we might not even know it, or it might be very obvious.
Isn't it wonderful that we can watch these beautiful birds so up close and personal?
The funniest thing I ever saw was one day when the female kept begging the male for mealworms (eggs had not yet hatched), and the male kept taking beakfuls of mealworms and dumping them on the eggs. He must have been young and learning from her. Several times he did that until he caught on. Too funny.

All the pair of Bluebirds that I have had (3) have always shared in the feeding/removing poop sacs. This years male went MIA during incubation (never had that happen before)but returned and has shared in all the upbringing of the little ones. They both would grab beakfulls and go feed the babies(and I mean beakfulls, we counted 8 waxworms in one beakfull of the female once, I had a photo!). They still are sharing yet at almost 3 weeks since fledging. My first year pair divebombed me like crazy from egg till fledging, the second/third pair didn't divebomb me until around 12-13 days old. This years pair I trained the female to come to the mealworm feeder and she taught the male as he was mia while she learned about it, all other years I trained the male and the female followed shortly after. I think Bluebars is right, they all have different personalities.
