new nest

My blues fledged about 2 weeks ago and already there is a nice new nest with one egg.Mom and Dad are bringing the babies right to the feeder.Boy she is some busy,feeding 4 babies,building a nest and laying an egg already.Just goes to show that Mom's work is never done.These eggs should hatch just when we are leaving on vacation,so the next bunch won't get the mealies like the first ones are getting.I feel bad about this but cannot help it.There should be plenty af bugs by then.I know they will survive without me,but I sure do enjoy feeding them....Jane in Mass

Some one should invent a automatic meal worm feeder with a automatic sensor for video or camera for those that go on vacation.

Yes I agree, mine will fledge with out me I think and I hate that since it will be my first experience with them,
But until then I can give what I can :)

Hi Cathy. I agree about the piece of wood. I just went out and removed it and will watch to see if it makes any difference to the blues. I may have to put a thin metal strip across the front to keep the door from closing too much. I must admit I hadn't thought of a better escape route for the BBs. I was hoping to get a shot of two or more of them peeking out on fledge day. With the round hole it's hard to see more than one at a time, although, if I recall, Kenn has shots that do. Hi Harold. Hope you are well. Actually, those images were shot at 1/5000sec. I always set it high when I am trying for action shots, to be sure to stop the wings. What kind of nesting material? I would take out the new nesting material and make sure the nestlings are ok and just observe and make sure the nestlings are being fed. Do you have any idea on how old the nestlings are? Are they feathered yet? Good luck! Donna
